The City hospital

The entire family was not able to take in the information given by the doctor who spelled out the details of the illness that had engulfed the little innocent Nimya.

As the doctor explained, the parents could only hope for the suggestive treatment that entailed with his final words.

Nimya was diagnosed with idiopathic scleritis which went ahead to leukopenia and lymphopenia - the immediate effective treatment being mesenchymal stem cell from placenta (stem cell transplant).

"...but doctor...how can we?...I mean...Trishna is...please can you tell us...what we can do?!!" Sonia told her dilemma looking at the desperate parents along with Prisha who was trying to calm the mother.

Trishna burst into tears on hearing the words of her helplessness of not able to help her daughter.

"...is it necessary for only the mother to be eligible for the stem transplant?...can it be any else...like a donor..." Prisha thought to clear her doubts on the advent of the procedure that the doctor was suggesting.

The gynaecologist being called in for the suggestive procedure replied "...um...yes...there is a chance...but we need to first administer the family members...before searching for a donor outside..."

"...then please go ahead with that..." Sonia pleaded the doctor who further explained that it was crucial for the medical team to look into the medical history of each family donor with no previous crucial illness.

"...and what about the donor from outside?...can't we look into it...simultaneously...I mean...we have no problem with the finances...." Prisha was adamant to start the procedure asap to not delay the treatment for the child.

"...Mam?...it is not about the finance...but about the matching with the donor...and moreover, looking for a donor may take more time than expected..." the doctor replied to the woman who wanted to get the treatment started.

"...how much time?!!..." Vinay asked to which the doctors glanced at each other knowing the reaction that might entail.

"...around 4-5 years...it may take even longer..."

Hearing that, Trishna requested the doctor to begin the procedure and requested Prisha to cooperate with the process.

Time was the essence of the procedure which Nimya didn't have.

The procedure would involve the couples to take up the HLA match procedure from the hospital.
