"What are they doing out on the roof?"
The Professor and his assistant were sitting together by their table, both staring in confusion at the screen as they watched the many red-clothed men and women walking around on the rooftop like lost chickens.
"Moscow went out for air surrounded by hostages holding fake guns." Berlin's voice trailed over the phone. "As you know, I never would have... permitted this craziness to happen, but my partners have convinced me that it's a really great idea."
"No more improvising." He turned to look at the woman to his side for a second, assuring himself that she was there. "Keep us informed."
He placed the red phone in its place again, while Atlas turned the volume of the radio, with which they controlled the police, up.
"They're getting closer to the ledge."

"This is not a courtesy call, Professor. If you want me to be upfront and not hide anything, then I expect the same."
"Everyone has a right to take a break." The man with the glasses spoke, holding the phone against his ear. "Don't you think it's kind to let the hostages out for air? I assure you, I don't intend to torture or scare anyone. I'd like to return them safe and sound." He stopped, smiling at Edinburgh who had just placed a plate of rice, chicken and some vegetables in front of him, before continuing. "As soon as I get what I asked for." Sergio took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a second, then opening them again. "That's all."
He hung up, staring at the screens in front of them. One of the masked men started stepping out of line, many ... coming in from the snipers. The others started kneeling.
The Professor took his glasses off, wiping his eyes in stress. It was like he was wiping his eyes to see if it was all really real or just a figment of his imagination.
Atlas stared at him. She had sat down again some seconds before. Slowly she placed her hand on the side of his jaw, turning his head to face her.
Sergio immediately felt all the worries and stress washing away as soon as they locked eyes, his brown eyes searching her soft and terrific emerald ones for a solution, anything that could help them in this moment.
Her hand trailed his jaw, leaving goosebumps all over his skin. It calmed him down and she knew it. Atlas' fingers traced the soft edges of his face, moving through his beard, which he needed to shave again by the way, their eyes not breaking away from each other.
Soon, she pulled away and the two turned to the screens again, the Professor placing his glasses back onto his face.
There was only a little whisper heard.
"Open fire."
Edinburgh her eyes widened behind her glasses, same with Sergio, as they eyed Arturo Román falling to the ground, a bullet in his shoulder. His mask fell off, and the police quickly realized what they just caused.
This. Was. War.
