Natalie Wilson-Wheeler lay down on her stomach, a Lord of The Rings book in her hand. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours blasted through her headphones. She was lost in her little world as Stevie Nicks' voice filled her room like her own personal soundtrack. Moira, her younger sister, burst into her room without knocking.

Natalie took off her headphones and turned to her. "Que tu quieres?" (What do you want)

Moira pulled out a newspaper and smoothed it out on the blanket. "You see this?" She said, her voice carrying an excited tone.

Natalie glanced at the newspaper, unimpressed. Her eyes flickered over the banner. She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, what about it?"

Moira looked at Natalie with a determined stare. "I want you to take me there."

Natalie tilted her head, her eyebrows knitted together. "Starcourt Mall?"

Moira's brown eyes lit up, she gestured at the newspaper. "Not just any mall- The new mall that just opened right here in Hawkins. Everyone is talking about it, Nat. There are so many stores, this giant food court, and the movie theater. Even Max is going." The real reason she wanted to go was to be with Max Mayfield, the only real friend Moira had made since moving to Hawkins. Natalie remembered the admiration in her sister's eyes as the redheaded girl skated to Hawkins Middle. Moira made Max feel more at home in Hawkins. Watching them bond over arcade games and long phone calls warmed Natalie's heart, even though she didn't show it.

She let out a sigh, Natalie started to kind of consider it, maybe they could have some girl's time away from the Party.

"Pregunta a mama." ( Ask Mom)

Moira left her room, grabbing the newspaper. She left her door slightly open. Natalie resumed the music and flipped the page where she left off. Moira busted into her room again with a huge smile on her face "She said yes!"

"Alright, let me put on my shoes and grab some money, then we'll go."

Moira just left to go to her room. Natalie  sat  on the edge of her bed, staring blankly at the Fleetwood Mac poster in the dim light. She eventually put on her Converse, which had  orange and pink peace signs drawn on the left side and a white arrow on the right. Natalie got up and grabbed a handful of cash, going to the living room to find Moira already there, bag in hand. Ryan was just there on the couch watching TV. "Hey there kiddo- taking your sister to the mall"

"Yeah, Dad, I'm being dragged against my will." Natalie said, a bit sarcastic. Ryan wasn't Natalie's father in any biological sense-- one look at the two of them would tell you that-- but he was the closest thing she had to one, having been in her life since she was in diapers. He'd met Kamila, Natalie's mom, while in Colombia for work, and subsequently left his well-paying government job to settle down with her. It wasn't until Natalie was three and Moira was in utero that their little family uprooted to Hawkins, as Ryan wanted to be closer to his sick mother. Natalie couldn't have asked for a better dad; she loved everything about Ryan, from his witty sense of humor to hearing about his storied past as a Vietnam War veteran and government spy, and most of her afternoons were spent in his room at Hawkins High, where he was a beloved history teacher.
