My eyes snapped open, and I gasped for air. What the hell? My heart was racing, and my skin was slick with sweat. I was drenched in fear. I sat up and looked around. The room was empty.
I was in a small cell. The walls were gray and bare. The floor was concrete. The only light came from a small window high above me. It was nighttime. The moon was full and bright. The shadows seemed to be moving, mocking me. I shivered and wrapped my arms around myself. My mind was playing tricks on me. That's all it was. It was nothing more than my imagination.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I had to calm down. I was safe. There was no need to be afraid. The shadows were gone. They were dead. They couldn't hurt me anymore. They were all dead.
I opened my eyes and looked at the room again. Nothing had changed. I was still alone. My mind was just trying to scare me.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the hall. The shadows were coming. I could hear them whispering. Their voices were low and menacing.
"They're coming." Oh, would they be met with a surprise? I laughed to myself. It was going to be wonderful. The door swung open, and a man stood in the doorway. He was tall and broad. His eyes were dark and cold. His mouth was set in a grim line.
"Come with me."
His voice was deep and rough. His hand reached out, and his fingers curled around my arm. "So I'm leaving?" I laughed.
"You're not going anywhere. Not until you tell us what you are."
"I have a good feeling you already know exactly what I am." I snarled at him. His veins bulged around his neck. It made my mouth water. I was craving blood.
"Tell us everything. Now."
"I'll never tell you anything." I giggled.
"Oh, but you will. You'll tell us everything. You'll tell us how you became this thing. You'll tell us why you killed those people."
"I didn't kill them."
"Yes, you did. You're a monster. You're a demon. You're the reason we're here. You're the reason we have to be locked up." I love to kill, and boy, I did a lot more than they realized. I killed those pathetic humans. They only knew I had killed those two humans. They didn't seem important, but everyone cared so much here.
"You're not going anywhere. Not until you give us answers. Not until you tell us how to destroy you. How to destroy all of you."
"There's no way to destroy me, and as far as I am aware, I am the only one like me. Of course, there are other demons, but none like me." I gave him a toothy smile. "But come on, try me."
"You think you're so smart, don't you?"
"I'm just telling the truth."
"You're lying. You're a liar. You're not a demon. You're just a freak. She's a freak who thinks she's better than everyone else. A freak who thinks she can get away with murder."
"I'm not a freak, and I'm not a murderer." Me, a freak! What bullshit. Those who caught me in a net and put me in a cage think that I am a freak. They are the weird ones.
"You're a liar." And you are stupid. All of you are stupid.
"I'm not a liar. I'm telling the truth."
"You're not. You're a murderer. A killer. A monster. That's all you are. A monster. A freak."
"I'm not a monster. I'm not a freak. I'm not a killer. I'm not a murderer."
"Yes, you are. You're all the same. All the monsters are the same. They all lie. They all say they're not monsters. But they are. They're all monsters. They're all murderers. They're all killers. They're all evil."
