The morning light filtered through the blinds, painting soft patterns on the walls of Percy and Annabeth's cozy apartment. Annabeth sat at the kitchen table, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee mug as she contemplated the news she had received earlier that day.
She had just returned from a routine visit to the doctor, expecting nothing out of the ordinary. But as she sat in the sterile examination room, listening to the doctor's words, her world had shifted on its axis.
"Pregnant," the doctor had said, her voice a mix of surprise and congratulations. "You're going to be a mother, Annabeth."
The words echoed in Annabeth's mind as she tried to wrap her head around the news. She and Percy had talked about starting a family someday, but they hadn't planned for it to happen so soon. They were both busy with their careers—Annabeth had just been promoted at the architectural firm where she worked, and Percy was fully committed to his duties at Camp Half-Blood.
Annabeth sighed, feeling a knot of uncertainty tighten in her chest. She had always prided herself on being prepared for anything, but this... this was different. She didn't know the first thing about being a mother. What if she wasn't ready? What if she couldn't handle it?
Lost in her thoughts, Annabeth didn't notice Percy enter the kitchen until he was standing right in front of her, concern etched on his handsome face.
"Hey, everything okay?" Percy asked, reaching out to brush a lock of blonde hair behind Annabeth's ear.
Annabeth forced a smile, but Percy could see the worry in her eyes. He took a seat beside her, his hand finding hers on the table.
"Talk to me, Wise Girl," Percy said softly. "What's going on?"
Annabeth took a deep breath, steeling herself to share the news. "I went to the doctor this morning," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "And... well, it turns out I'm pregnant."
Percy's eyes widened in surprise, but before he could respond, Annabeth rushed on, her words tumbling out in a jumble.
"I know we weren't planning for this yet, and I'm not sure how I feel about it," she admitted, her voice trembling with uncertainty. "I mean, we have so much going on with our jobs, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to be a mother. What if I mess it all up, Percy?"
Percy listened quietly, his heart aching for the turmoil his girlfriend was going through. He reached out, gently cupping Annabeth's face in his hands and guiding her gaze to meet his.
"Hey, look at me," Percy said, his voice soft but firm. "You are going to be an amazing mother, Annabeth Chase. I have no doubt about that."
Annabeth's eyes welled with tears at Percy's words, overwhelmed by the love and reassurance in his voice. She leaned into his touch, feeling the warmth of his hands against her skin.
"But what about our jobs, Percy?" she asked, her voice barely more than a whisper. "We're not exactly in the best position to be starting a family right now."
Percy smiled, brushing away Annabeth's tears with his thumb. "We'll figure it out, Wise Girl," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "We've faced worse together, haven't we? And besides, who says we have to do this alone? We have each other, and that's all we need."
Annabeth felt a wave of gratitude wash over her as she looked into Percy's sea-green eyes. In that moment, she knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, as a team.
"Thank you, Percy," she whispered, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his lips. "I don't know what I would do without you."
Percy smiled against her lips, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace. "You'll never have to find out, Wise Girl," he murmured against her hair. "I'll always be here for you. Always."
As they sat together in the warm embrace of the morning light, Annabeth felt a sense of peace wash over her. She didn't know what the future held, but with Percy by her side, she knew they could handle anything that came their way. And as they began to plan for their new arrival, Annabeth couldn't help but feel a flicker of excitement deep within her heart. Perhaps being a mother wouldn't be so daunting after all, especially with Percy by her side.
Percy sensed the shift in Annabeth's mood and decided to lighten the atmosphere with a playful grin. "Hey, Wise Girl," he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I guess this means I'll have to start practicing my dad jokes, huh?"
Annabeth rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a small laugh. "Oh gods, please spare our child from your terrible puns," she teased, nudging him playfully.
Percy chuckled, pulling her close and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Don't worry, Wise Girl," he said, his voice filled with affection. "I promise to save my best jokes for you."
