Liam situated himself until he was comfortable, sitting on the side of his thigh he leaned his head against Asher's arm. He watched the video game that Asher was playing, although he didn't really understand the game.
Liam sat up and turned to look at Asher, he planted a kiss on Asher's cheek. "We could play another game," Liam said in a seductive tone but Asher shrugged him off, "come on, I'm bored."
"I'm not," Asher replied, "play your phone or some shit."
Liam sighed, "I came over to spend time with you, not to watch you game." Asher didn't respond, "why don't we play a board game or something?"
"Why don't you stop talking? If I get shot I'm blaming you," Asher snapped, his eyes never leaving the screen. But Liam was sick of not getting any attention today, he reached for the remote, but Asher immediately flicked his hand away.
"Ow," Liam said annoyed, "you didn't have to hit my hand."
"Then shut up and don't touch my shit," Asher groaned.
"Then give me some attention!" Liam bit back, desperation clear in his voice.
"Fine," Asher tossed his Xbox remote to the side and grabbed the television remote and turned the tv off. "Happy? You have all my attention."
"Thank you," Liam said, "I just don't see the point in coming over if I'm just watching you game, I don't mind it sometimes, but I want your time too," Liam explained in a softer toned voice, taking Asher's hand in his own.
Asher sighed, "finals are so much work right now, gaming's been helping me calm down. But yeah, I should give you more time too right? I only see you every day at school and most afternoons."
Liam pulled back, he should have known this conversation had been going to well to be true. "Fine," Liam said, handing Asher the remote back. "Game, do whatever you want. I'm going home."
"No," Asher said, grabbing Liam's hand. "Compromise?"
Liam frowned but found himself nodding, "how?" he asked. He didn't have to wait as Asher pulled him into his lap, kissing his cheek while holding the gaming remote in front of them both. His arms wrapped around Liam's waist as he nuzzled into his neck, "okay, I like this," Liam giggled.
"Good," Asher said, kissing Liam's cheek. At first, he didn't care about Liam, he really didn't. But he saw how devoted Liam was to him, that kind of love was what he dreamed of having with Scott.
But until then, Liam would do. It didn't mean he didn't like Liam, he did. HE just didn't love him, but he didn't want to lose him. Not when Scott didn't even care about his existence, he could still use Liam until then.
Plus, Liam was cute. He was sweet, kind and funny even when he wasn't trying to be. He made Asher look good, most of the time. But that's why Asher helped him, kept him in line.
The door opened and in came Theo, he spared them a glance and caught Liam waving at him. "Hey Theo," Liam smiled, only for Theo to look at him before seeing Asher's challenging expression. He decided it would not be the best time to fight with Asher, not with Liam present.
As soon as Theo walked up stairs he stood at the top, listening in on their conversation. "Don't talk to Theo," Asher said in a low tone, Liam turned to face Asher with a confused expression plastered upon his face.
"What?" Liam asked, "I was with him the other day, why the sudden change?"
Asher grabbed Liam's wrist, "just stay the fuck away from my brother? Got it?"
Liam tugged his wrist back, "okay," he said softly. "What happened?"
Asher shook his head, "don't question me Liam, just fucking listen to me." He started another game, shooting other players in the face with a sniper before dancing on their dead bodies. "Why do you have to constantly fucking question me? You're my partner aren't you? You should trust me when I say something, just listen to me."
"I am listening," Liam said softly, shifting uncomfortably in Asher's arms. "Just forget I even asked, play your game." He didn't want to fight with him, not right now and not over Theo.
"We're going to a party tomorrow," Asher said, but this was the first time Liam had heard about this, he turned to face Asher with a worried and defiant expression.
"No," Liam said quickly, sitting up and pulling himself out of Asher's hold so that he could sit beside him instead. "I'm not going," Liam said. Theo held his breath from his spot at the stairs, this would be the one and only time he hoped Asher would get his way.
"Liam," Asher said in a low tone, "we're going, it's the first party before the basketball and lacrosse season start and since we're both on those teams we have to make a good showing for the party."
"I don't want to go," Liam said.
"I don't care, we're going, and it'll be fun," Asher kicked his feet up onto the coffee table, "I don't want to hear your whining, just play your phone or go home. I'll get you tomorrow and we'll go from here to there."
Liam stood up, "why don't you care about what I want?"
"Oh my god Liam shut up," Asher snapped, "you keep fucking bitching and complaining, it's honestly exhausting. What have I told you before about it?" He found himself pausing the game and standing above Liam.
"You've told me it's annoying," Liam replied, his eyes averted to the ground as he sucked in a breath, "but I don't like parties Asher, you know that."
"You'll be fine, you skip most parties anyways. You can handle this one, I'll pick you up and you'll be with me all night," Asher said reassuring him, in his own way.
"Okay..." Liam said, booking an uber "I'll go home then," he said, brushing past Asher and going towards the door. "I love you," he said softy, turning to see Asher nod.
"Get home safe," Asher replied before grabbing his headset and throwing it of, probably to game with one of the boys as usual. Theo walked to his bedroom and looked out the window, he watched as Liam sat on the curb.
His head fell into his hands and it was easy to assume Liam was crying, Theo couldn't just yell out to him. He turned to his table, grabbed a piece of paper and wrote his phone number on it. He folded the paper several times with practiced expertise before it became a paper plane, he examined his work before he sent the plane froward.
He watched as it landed on the road, Liam saw it and jumped up. Looking back he saw Theo at the window and it only added to his confusion, Theo placed a finger over his lips to indicate not to say anything.
Liam walked towards the plane and couldn't help but smile, he showed Theo he had grabbed it. Theo motioned for him to unwrap it so Liam did, despite not wanting to ruin it. He saw a phone number hidden inside it and he blushed, never had anyone gone to these lengths for him before, it was nice.
He nodded to Theo before entering the number into his phone and texting the number, Theo smiled as he heard his phone ding. He saw the message, 'now that was creative.'
Theo laughed; 'I try. I'll see you at Isaac's party, goodnight Liam.'
'Goodnight.'
