Hatake didn't disappoint. Within two hours, she received a detailed account of what happened to Sudo. And Hatake's number too, by extension, which she immediately named as 'Hatake 🙄'.
'Oh, I should totally prank call him sometime,' she thought evilly, daydreaming about how she'd get back at him. For what? She didn't know, probably for being a smug bastard or something. She did suppose she didn't hate him anymore or anything, but he did annoy her, and she enjoyed annoying him in return.
It was a good thing she'd made that deal with him. The information she received was rather concerning, after all.
Hatake 🙄: Your classmate Sudo got into a fight with three guys from Class C. They put up a complaint against him to the school. However, there were no cameras where the fight took place so the school cannot resolve it that easily. Sudo will most likely be suspended for at least three weeks because the other three boys were visibly beat up while he didn't have a scratch on him. Both sides keep claiming their innocence.
In other words, this was something that could easily cost them class points. She couldn't let that happen; not only would the morale of the class drop, but these points could be the points that could end up robbing them of the chance to defeat Class A.
Me: Do you think there was a witness or anybody who saw the fight?
After a while, she got a response.
Hatake 🙄: There was. It was your classmate, Sakura Airi. And, of course, my informant, but they refuse to act as a witness.
In other words, she could only rely on this mysterious informant to pass information to her. They would under no circumstances show themselves.
Me: Is Sudo innocent though? If he isn't, then it's no use trying to clear his name.
Hatake 🙄: ... We should probably call.
Suddenly, her phone was ringing and she almost flew off her bed.
"Hey, give me a warning next time, moron," she chastised him over the phone.
"I quite literally implied that I was going to call through the text. Are you dense?" Came Hatake's sleepy voice through the receiver. It was 11 AM, and she felt guilty about keeping him up. Still, Class D couldn't wait. Who knew when the school decided to close the case.
"Okay, I get it. Why did you want to call?" She asked. There was some background noise on Hatake's end - it sounded as if he was looking for something - until it stopped and he replied.
"No big reason, just wanted to hear your voice," he teased, making Sakura roll her eyes.
"Ha, ha, very funny. So, is Sudo guilty?" She tried to change the topic back to Sudo's case.
"It depends on your definition of guilty. The situation wouldn't have happened if he didn't have a volatile personality. The three guys provoked him and threw the first hit, but then they let themselves get soundly beaten up by him after Sudo lost his temper. He claims self-defence, they claim assault."
As someone with a personality volatile enough that she wanted to punch him just for fun, she didn't agree with Hatake's conclusion that it was partially Sudo's fault.
"What! That sounds like they did it on purpose. How troublesome..." she exclaimed.
"Who knows? If you want to help him, you should get your classmate Sakura Airi to witness."
Sakura considered it. "Isn't that kind of pointless though? She's from Class D, she'll be accused of being biased."
"You should still try it though. She might have an ace up her sleeve," Hatake shrugged.
