1 year and 5 months later
Delia and I have been going to therapy, having made an appointment after we discussed it. We started off doing a session once a week for a few months and I can really see an improvement. After a while we started spreading the appointments out and now it's on an as needed basis. I have to say that I feel a lot better about things and I'm glad I took her advice about the therapy.
She's been there with me every step of the way and I couldn't be more thankful. About 6 months ago, she brought up the idea of children again and I'd honestly forgotten about it. I still wanted them, so we decided to start the process; it was a bit rocky at first but we were persistent. Today is actually our first trimester ultrasound; I wanted to wait until I was sure the procedure had taken.
Besides, Delia has all sorts of potions and remedies that she remembers from when she was trying to get pregnant. So we've been taking very good care of the little one, now it's time to finally see him or her. "Come on, baby—babies" she grins with her tongue between her teeth as she places one hand on my lower back and the other on my stomach.
We head back into the examination room and wait patiently for the doctor. "I'm so nervous" I whisper, "don't be. I'm right here and I think maybe your excitement is just misplaced... we'll be seeing our baby today I mean—I'm a bit nervous too but more excited than anything" she rambles and I smile as I look up at her. The door opens and we both turn to it, I let out a deep sigh.
"Hi, I'm Arizona Robbins, how are you ladies feeling?" the woman asks, "a little nervous" Cordelia answers. "You can say that again" I mumble and the blonde doctor giggles softly as she takes a seat. "Well, there's no need to be nervous. All I'm doing today is a minor check up on the little one and then you can be on your way" she assures, turning on the machine.
"I'll just need you to lift your shirt and I warmed the gel beforehand, so no worries about it being cold" she smiles warmly and it puts me at ease. "Will you be the one delivering the baby?" I ask as she puts the gel on and starts gently pressing the probe on my tummy. "Yep. I'm with you all the way" she chirps, glancing at me with a reassuring smile and I sigh in relief.
I really like her. I think as I look at Delia and she nods in agreement. "Well... it seems the baby might have a heart murmur... it's just a bit irregular..." Arizona seems to think aloud and I turn to look at her. "What do you mean a heart murmur? Is that—is that something we did wrong?" Delia asks and I can hear how concerned she is, her worry transferring to me.
"No, no, it's typically genetic and benign; it can even go away with time. Just something to keep an eye on but nothing to worry about just yet" Robbins says, "I'm sure it'll be okay" I whisper as I take Delia's hand and she nods unsurely as her eyebrows crease. "Just to be sure, I want to do a transvaginal ultrasound if that's ok" she suggests, "sure, no problem" I say without hesitation and she nods with a smile.
"I'll give you a second to get undressed and I'll be back" she says, handing me a cover to place over myself. Delia doesn't say anything as I take off my leggings, just retrieving them from me and folding them to place in the chair as she stands. "Don't look so scared" I mumble as I place a hand on her cheek and she grabs it as she lightly smiles at me.
There's a knock and then Arizona is back, ready to start the next process. I stare at the ceiling as she hands me the probe to guide into my vagina. Once it's in, she takes hold of it and I hold Delia's hand while my other lays just under my boobs. "What? Why are you looking like that??" I hear Delia ask frantically and I turn to her first before looking at Arizona who has an expression of slight shock.
"Babe, I'm sure it's nothing" I try to reassure her but I myself am a bit worried now. "Wow I... here—see for yourselves" she says and turns the screen towards us but at first I can't really see anything. "It's definitely not a murmur I heard" Robbins says with a smile and I just look at her confused. I turn to Delia to see her looking shocked too but I have no clue what's going on.
