Blind Eyes and Icy Heart (Vladimir Makarov x OFC)

Chapter 8

Yuri holds back a scream in surprise and turns to see who might have fired.

I know exactly who it is, my heart starts pounding in my chest.

" Отпусти ее! Сейчас! (Let go of her! Now!)" I hear Vladimir scream at Yuri in a commanding voice.

I can't see the look that Vladimir is giving him but I can tell by his tone of voice that his expression is full of rage.

" Я ясно выражаюсь? (Do I make myself clear?)" Makarov yells out. Yuri lets go of her arm while staring seriously at Vladimir.

"If you ever try to touch her again or harm her in any way, I will make sure to kill you myself. Is that understood?" he command.

I hear Yuri scoff and smirk a bit.

"You're going to kill an old friend and an ally because of her? How sad... is she really that important to you?" His voice continues with a mockery tone making fun of me and making Vladimir weak for showing such loyalty to me.

Vladimir continues to keep his expression as stern as ever as he doesn't allow his emotions to show in front of Yuri.

"Yes, she is important to me. And if you don't like it... then you have to accept it like the others" he says cruelly.

He stares at Yuri directly in the eyes for a few seconds and he doesn't even give him a chance to respond before speaking once again.

"And just so you know it, this girl may be blind but she sure as hell ain't weak..."

Yuri loses his temper. "Do you like this woman so much?! Is it because our life takes us away from some sexual satisfaction that you have now kept someone like her around?!" he spit.

"Really? You think that I'm with her because i can't find someone else? You clearly know nothing about me or my life..." he replies.

"I guess even if she is blind, she can still satisfy you in other ways right?" Yuri says sarcastically while laughing.

My heart drops when I hear Yuri's cruel words and I can't help but feel aware of my own blindness. I feel insulted because of something I can't control.

"Watch your tone, Yuri!" Vladimir says almost growling.

"Listen Yuri, this is the last warning you are going to get. You can be my friend but you don't want to challenge me. If you mess with what's mine again, you'll see howI can be cruel." he tells them coldly with a pronounced accent.

"Now it's better for you to get lost and leave me in peace with my woman, otherwise... you might regret it" Vladimir's voice is firm and stern.

Yuri laughs at the way Vladimir refers to her as his woman and irritation boiling up inside of him. He seems to be annoyed at the way Vladimir is acting and he is not about to let it go.

"I can't blame you... I can see why you feel that way about her, she is an attractive little thing... but let me help you realize that you are in love with an illusion not the reality. What do you see in her so much anyway? She is blind for God's sake!"

The second shot makes me wince.

Vladimir shoots to the ground next to Yuri "Уходи!(Leave, NOW!)".

" Дерьмо...(Shit...)" Yuri says with a grimace and he feels a mix of anger and fear upon seeing the gunshot near his feet. Then he looks up to see the anger and fury in Vladimir's eyes.

"Fine...fine...I'm going." Yuri says and he backs off quickly without wasting any time.

The moment that Yuri is gone, Vladimir's expression softened and his mood was more relaxed. He lets out a sigh for relief and walks over to Mariam.

"Are you alright?" He asks in a soft tone as he comes closer.

"Yes, I'm fine, but was it necessary to shoot, two times?" I ask him.

"Of course it was, I couldn't tolerate it any more. If he had said one more word to insult you or even laid a hand on you I would have killed him him." He says in an assertive voice, his anger still lingering but not as intense as before.

"Vladimir, is what Yuri said true? Have I made you weak? Am I a distraction?" I ask quickly.

He immediately shakes his head and he looks at her with a soft expression.

"No, you did not make me weak. If anything, you've made me stronger because I now realize what actually you matters to me, especially for a person who has given me so much already. I want you to know that I care deeply for you and that I would never let anyone harm you, no matter the cost."

"But he said this thing is affecting the way you work!"

"He is a fool..." He replies quickly and with irritation.

"Vladimir tell me the truth, Yuri was very convinced of what he said." I ask wearily.

"...He is right about one thing and that's... that I've become too attached to you. My men are used to see me this ruthless and dangerous person but I've become soft around you. I don't let myself become vulnerable around anyone, but I've let my guard down for you..."

"So he was right! I made you weak!" I say feeling myself the cause.

"Shut up!" he cuts me off abruptly, but his tone softens a bit when he realizes he's about to lose his temper. Vladimir puts his hand on his forehead and tries to calm down.

"I've never been weak for anyone else and I guess this is the first time that I've allowed myself to feel like this with someone. Don't blame yourself for it, it's not your fault at all." he sighs.

"Vladimir, I don't want anything bad to happen to you!" I hold out my hand and he grasps it.

He hears her words and his heart melts, the Russian smiles softly as he comes towards her.

"Nothing will ever happen to me. I can take care of myself, as I've told you before. But I will admit that having you beside me does make me feel vulnerable and it gives me a lot of strength at the same time. I know that no matter what happens in my life, I will always have you and you will always have me. So don't you worry about me."

He kisses my hand, my arm, my neck and my mouth. "я люблю тебя (I love you)" he whispers.

"Я тоже тебя люблю (Ti amo anche io)" I say with a smile.

Then he lifts me up and we walk towards our room.

Despite everything, Makarov is still a cruel criminal when provoked and love will certainly not change him.
Everyone needs someone by their side and he too feels the need.
