I feel someone touching my shoulder whit a firm and strong touch.
"Please don't... don't..." I say terrified but then I hear a familiar voice calling my name in the distance. The person who was touching me backs up stepping aside.
Vladimir approaches her kneeling at her side.
"Are you alright? Are you injured?" he asks me worriedly as he grasps my hands. I can feel his heartbeat pulsing in the veins of his hands.
"Vladimir is it really you?" I say with trembling voice, the Russian takes off his jacket to cover my almost naked body, turning to his man who immediately turns his gaze.
"Yes, it's me..." Vladimir says worriedly as he checks Mariam's body for injuries.
I stretch out my hands and when I touch him I slide them along his chest until I hug him. In that moment everything that happened comes crashing down on me and the realization of what could have happened makes me cry my eyes out.
Vladimir embraces me tightly. He gently runs his hand through my hair. "It's okay you're safe now...".
He turns and speaks to his men in a very blunt and stern manner, looking furious as he orders them to clean up the mess and hurry up and dispose of the bodies. The soldiers nod and without wasting time do as they are ordered.
Vladimir turns back and looks at Mariam once again, still holding her close to his chest.
"Did they hurt you?" he asks, lifting my face and noticing the bruise on my cheek.
"They... they just hit me... Vladimir I want to go home!" I say, tightening my fingers on his shirt.
If Mariam could see the look of anger on Vladimir's face...
Vladimir takes a breath and tries to calm down, his eyes still filled with anger "Shh... don't worry, I'll take you home," he says softly, trying to hide the hurricane inside him.
The reality of what was about to happen to me still hits me. "They were going to... they were going to..." the sobs cut me off.
"I know... I know, I got here just in time to prevent them from doing anything horrible to you." he says caressing my neck.
He picks me up and carries me to the car, I hear him giving orders in Russian to his men in a stern manner.
I remain sitting on his lap all the way to his flat.
When we enter the flat he takes me to the bathroom and prepares the shower, makes me memorize where the various things and furniture are so that I can move around independently.
Then Vladimir leaves me alone and shuts the door.
Before I start washing I take a breath and put my hand on my chest to calm my heart.
("He came to save me, he really came to save me!" I repeat to myself."
When I have finished washing, I dry myself and dress in clothes he has prepared for me. "Vladimir? I am ready." I call him to lead me into the living room.
After a few minutes he hears Mariam calling him.
"I'm here, my dear, come out and follow my voice..." he says softly as I open the door and following his voice I make my way crawling my hands on the wall.
He is there waiting for me and as soon as I touch him I hug him tightly not wanting to let him go.
"I was scared." I say but much calmer than before.
He embraces me in turn, making sure I understand that there is no reason to be afraid.
Vladimir strokes my hair gently and speaks in a soft voice.
