Rex blinked to himself as he looked at the sight in front of him. In his small yet cozy apartment in the city, he has a house but it was too big and he turned it into an apartment complex instead for some passive income. His apartment wasn't the biggest nor the most luxurious but it was enough with him owning all the rooms on the second floor with some of them being used as...
Reese, his beloved niece was playing with a certain someone.
The little gremlin was left in his care due to his older siblings going on a honeymoon.
"There you go," The newcomer said with a gentle, motherly tone while Reese nodded.
He knew her.
Silently moving into the apartment, Rex opened the cupboard to prepare some drinks. Milk for Reese and two cups of coffee.
'She does have a copy of the keys in my apartment,' Rex thought to himself as he took the cups and approached the duo.
"Ah, morning," The newcomer said with a smile
"Morning, bunny," Rex greeted, handing her a cup of coffee. She was the only one of the group he regularly kept in contact with. He is an archaeologist and their companies partnered up a lot. Which was weird since the company he was part of, was not the largest or most well-known when their partnerships started.
"Uncle Stinky! Look!" Reese shouted, proudly showing off her gaming skills. "Big sis Bun-Bun taught me!"
"That's nice, Reese," The little girl smiled brightly as she returned to her game while Rex sat on the couch with a tablet on hand,
"How's work?" Rex asked the moment he felt a weight on his shoulder. He did not need to turn around to smell the shampoo she used.
"It's tiring," Bronya replied, closing her eyes as she relaxed. "Board meetings, interviews,"
"Dealing with the press and leakers," Rex finished.
"Yes," Bronya whispered as she took a sip from her cup. "Sorry for showing up unannounced,"
"No need, besides, I should be the one saying sorry. You always end up cleaning the place every time you visit,"
The mess Reese left before they fell asleep was clean.
"But Rex, you let me crash in here," Bronya countered. "It's my home too,"
It was true. Like Rin, Bronya is a semi-regular occupant of his house. After the war, during her apprenticeship under Welt, they both lived together with his university being near the place they both lived.
The trauma of the war was something they shared and they slept together a lot during the first year but not anymore.
"What are you reading?"
"Just some reports. I will head to Shenzhou sometime next week," Rex replied, handing the tablet to her. While he is a gamer, he is not as tech-savvy as her. All the brands he used were recommended or modified by her, after all.
"Again?"
"Yeah, they found a lot of good things there," Rex replied, taking a sip from his cup of coffee. The black screen of a game over screen reflected his scarred face. It was something he received during the Honkai war when he and his squad were sent to distract an army of Honkai Beasts. It was a massive horde and a single moment scarred his face permanently despite his healing factor.
Thankfully, they can be hidden by retracting themselves, mostly showing as a scar under his cheek. A sudden shift on his lap and Rex smiled as he saw the sleeping face of Bronya. The Russian young woman had fallen asleep, snoring lightly as she did. Taking her near-empty cup of coffee, Rex used the remains of his Geo powers to telekinetically control them to the table.
