|| ANVIKA POV ||
It's been three days since I last ate or left the hotel. I've avoided my coffee as if it's a ticking time bomb that might explode into another face-to-face with him. Not that I'm scared or anything—okay, maybe a little. I just don't want to relive that awkward coffee spill disaster.
I've been hiding out, convinced that my father has sent his army of search parties after me. He's probably got my face plastered on billboards by now. Yesterday, I had a chat with my bestie, Yashasvi. We've been inseparable since playgroup, and she's a dentist in Mumbai now. She wasn't able to come to my wedding, but I had already warned her about my runaway bride plan.
Today, I'm off to her place. She lives alone, so no awkward encounters with her parents. I quickly threw on some clothes, covering my face with a shawl and hiding behind sunglasses to avoid any chance of being recognized.
I hopped into a cab, which took an hour to reach her place. When I finally arrived, I called her up.
"Thank you, bhaiya!" I said as I got out, trying to make my escape as discreet as possible.
"Hello, Yashi! Which floor is yours?" I asked.
Yashasvi's voice crackled on the other end, "Just wait there. I'm coming down to get you."
"Okay," I said, relieved to finally see a friendly face.
Moments later, Yashasvi appeared, arms wide open, ready for a hug that could only be described as bone-crushing. "Hey! How are you?" she asked.
"I'm very good! How are you?" I replied, squeezing her back.
"Look at me," she said with a smirk. "How do I look?"
"As always, rowdie!" I teased.
"That's me!" she agreed, laughing. "Now let's get out of this heat. It's like a sauna out here."
We headed up to her flat, which, I must say, was gorgeous. Yashasvi and I had always dreamed of living alone in a flat, with a cozy balcony, a study area, and a room dedicated to books. She had managed to create the dream space we'd always wanted. I, on the other hand, am still in the planning stages because my parents would never approve of me living alone.
"Sit down, and I'll get us some coffee," Yashasvi said. "Let's catch up over coffee. It's been ages!"
I smiled. "Sure thing," I replied.
Yashasvi soon returned with coffee and snacks. We dove into a hearty discussion about life while munching on a bizarre assortment of chips—original, chutney, and extra spicy—along with Swiss rolls and Lay's in blue and green.
We set up our movie marathon in the living room, where the air conditioning was set to arctic blast. With bean bags, a fur blanket, and a mountain of snacks, we were ready for an epic movie night.
(something like this)
"We should make Lay's pizza!" Yashasvi exclaimed. We placed three packets of blue Lay's on a plate, topped them with cheese, and baked them to perfection.
"Tadaaa! 💫💫" we declared with a flourish as if we'd invented the culinary equivalent of a unicorn.
The plan: "My Name is Khan," followed by "DDLJ," and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham."
After three movies, exhaustion hit. We snuggled up on the couch and drifted off to sleep in the chilly room.
HeHe😁😁
Morning came with a rude awakening. Yashasvi, in her usual dramatic style, was yelling my name like the world was ending.
"Anvi! Anvi! Get up!" she shouted, bouncing next to me.
"Five more minutes!" I mumbled, burrowing deeper into the blanket.
"Lazy bum! Get up!" she insisted, giving my behind a playful kick.
"I hate you," I pouted, still half-asleep.
"Anvi, I'm late, and I'll kill you if you don't get up. I'm leaving now. Lock the door and either take the keys with you or give them to the neighbors."
"Okay, I'll give them to the neighbors," I said, still groggy.
"Bye!" she called out, speeding off like a bullet train.
"Crazy girl," I muttered with a smile as I thought about my rowdy friend.
I freshened up, made myself coffee and a sandwich, cleaned up, and gave the keys to the neighbors. Then, I headed back to my hotel. I spent the day hunting for job openings in hospitals, hoping to find something soon.
The day flew by in a blur of job searching and ordering food. By nightfall, I was exhausted and ready for bed. I collapsed into sleep, feeling a strange mix of contentment and restlessness. I'd survived the day without facing my past, but the ache of everything left behind lingered in the back of my mind.
