CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT: SUGAR
"Isn't she beautiful?" I whisper,
"She's magnificent..." Victor whispers back, "She looks like Grace Kelly of the 21st century." He adds, indeed Tessa looks like a reincarnated Grace Kelly on her wedding dress. What made Tessa look ever elegant is the tiara that sits at her hair which is tame on a very intricate up do, the whole church are in awe as my best friend walks the greatest walk of her life, I can see her lips trembling though she tries to smile, I feel how overwhelmed she is, she looks gorgeous.
"If only I know then that Tessa makes a beautiful bride, I should have tried my chances." I elbowed Victor still has his eyes on her, I am the bridesmaid. And Carlos' brother is the best man. Well, he's cute though, and the fact that he's been smiling at me every time our gazes meets. It actually makes me uneasy but this is not my moment so I better shut my radar off.
As Tessa passes us, there's this sudden flash of imagination, I am the one walking down the aisle, people are all smiling at me, my friends, some of my colleagues, Victor, Dean, Jean, Tessa, Matt, Gail, Nina and Ashley, Uncle Alfon, and finally, Harold... Smiling adorably on me, then he reaches for my hand, and...
"Glad, I'm not too late." Someone with husky voice bump my side, I turn abruptly to sneer at the person but rather caught staring at his glory, brushed up hair, making those naturally curl ends tamed, looking so young because he shaved, eyes glowing... staring at me, I blink rapidly and turn my gaze to the altar, Tessa and Carlos are now in front of the priest, the mass is starting.
I am between Victor and Harold. Victor's attention is set on the soon to be Mr.&Mrs. Martinez while I sat there feeling awkward. Harold's leg brushes mine, making me squirm a bit. Though he is regally clothed I can feel the warmth coming from his skin, enticing me to come closer and rest freely beside him, but I can't! He still has a gaffe to pay for. A gaffe he has to admit.
"You look lovely." His breathe warms my skin, making me fidgets a bit obviously,
"Are you cold?" Victor then protectively tries to wrap his arm around my shoulder but Harold slap his arm, making him withdraw itmid air, some guests behind us reacted,
"Sssh! Eyes on the Bride and Groom!" The three of us bite our lips like school kids and remained silent.
The ceremony is filled with laughter as the soon to be newlyweds recite their vows to one another,
"I promise to be the most dedicated wife," Carlos coughs at the first phrase which earned him a glare from his wife-to-be and the crowd broke to a fit of giggles. "I vow to always understand your situation regardless of the case, to learn to cook so that you don't have to trade your lunch with your workmate, to cherish you as my better half, to be the loving mother to our children, matching how adventurous they can be just like their father" the whole crowd are in tears as Tessa continues reciting, "And, I will thank God every day, that of all the person I have met, he gave me the greatest man, who is able to overcome the odds, whose willing to sacrifice his own happiness just to see me smile. I love you." I am literally weeping; Victor successfully passes an arm around my shoulder and I lean on to his while he taps my bare back, it's nothing but a comforting gesture but someone seemed to take it negatively,
"Last time I check I am still your boyfriend," Harold hisses enough for Victor to hear, but the latter being the friend that he is just poke his tongue out to him and ignored the rampant man beside me, I can see he's really irritated, he then rests his hand on my leg, making me squirm, suggesting I hold it but I just squeeze myself more to Victor, I know he's starting to feel the rage but he deserves it, he still is blacklisted to me.
