Chapter 4: Engaged?

This would be like a dream to many people and I would've been one of them too but I'm not ready for marriage.. Even though it's not real I'm still unprepared. There are so many things I have to do and responsibilities I have to take up for my people.

Having a husband might distract me from my future plans I have in stored or he might oppose my plans, even worse, he might find out by accident and execute me for it. OR, he would end up supporting me and doing his best to prove that he has faith in me and will be with me all the way through for the better or worse.

Also. Engaged?.. When?.. Was this birthday just an engagement? No wonder my "parents" Decided to go biggest this year.

Harriet and I were both right after all, tonight was memorable.

Everyone was clapping and cheering for us as I just stood there shocked. I caught a glimpse of Liam on the other side of the room and from what I saw, he didn't like it either. He stood as stiff as a rock without any expression.

I was so disapointed and exhausted. I wanted to go home. But where is home? "Harriet.. I think I'm gonna leave." I whispered as I headed to the limo through the backdoor. "Heyy. Im coming with you" Harriet said tagging along with me.

The car ride was really silent. Harriet was looking at me the entire time. I've known her for a long time and I knew she was trying to comfort me but she just couldn't find the words. Instead she just took my hand and intertwined our fingers as she rubbed my palm with her thumbs while she rest her head on my shoulders.

My bed was next to a medium sized window. I opened it and slide the curtains to the side letting the moonlight be the only source of light in the room.

I sat in the corner of my bed with my knees folded upward to put my chin on top of them. Harriet sat beside the window on the bed, gazing up to the moon.

"So.. How do you feel?" Questioned Harriet. "I.. Have no idea to be honest. I'm just a little surprised but not shocked. I 50% saw this coming.. Just not really soon."  "Hmm... Even though I've never been in your position, I get it. And I just wanted to let you know that I'll be there in all times. Good or bad. We signed the friendship contract eight years ago remember?" Harriet let out a small chuckle. "I know Harriet. Thank you for being there for me and coming back with me." I replied with a smile.

She hugged me and continued, "I'll be there to defend you everytime, I'll stand with you, I'll suffer with you, I'll be with you in every way possible. Even though it might not seem like it, I really love you so much Erica. You're my bestest friend and I'd be your best friend in every universe. I may be rude or mean most of the time, but none of that can match up to the amount of love I have for you."

"Thank you... So much. I don't know what to say." I whispered in her ear as I hugged her back. Times like these meant so much to me because 90% of the time, we would talk bullshit, criticise each other, be rude, or bully but these were rare moments. Our friendship is like we talk shit about each other in front of people when both of us are around but talk good behind our backs.

We broke the hug as we layed there on the bed. I could feel myself slowly drifting into sleep. I hope when I wake up, everything that happened tonight would be a dream and the time with the prince a dream-like memory.

"Hey.. I'm gonna inform the rest that we're back at the castle. Do you want them to come over or?" She asked. "I don't have the energy to talk much. I just want to sleep." I said with a quiet voice. "Ok" Replied Harriet.

Liam Perrife:
That was it. I'm engaged against my will. I caught Erica taking a quick glimpse of me after her father announced about it. From the look of her face, she didn't know about all this.

Even though I didn't like this at all, I'm doing it for my kingdom and for my people. To make our dynasty more powerful. At first, I was totally against it but then my mother convinced me and i decided to play along. Once I get the throne, I would end her for good. But what about after I end her ? What about the marriage after that?

Will it all be worth it?

I wanted to get to know my future bride more after the announcement but I guess she left. My mother and I were going to be staying in Helim in the castle for a few weeks. It was almost midnight and the tiredness was starting to kick in. It's been a long night and I wanted to rest now.

All of a sudden, a rush of worry came over me. I needed air. I stepped out to the back of the mansion, to the garden and sat next to the fountain. I removed my mask and let out a loud sigh.

I opened my necklace, a locket, to be a exact. There was a picture of my father. Everytime I was in doubt or worried or upset, I talk to him.

"Hey dad.. " I said with a sigh and a small smile. "You made the night sky really divine by being up there you know?.. " I exclaimed, looking up at the sky full of stars.

"I'm getting married soon to the princess of Helim. I don't love her but I'm doing this for our people.. For you. But I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it.. If only you were here talking to me right now. I really miss you a lot papa. And I promise, I'll avenge you. And about the girl, I don't know if she would be like the ones I talked about with you. As long as I've known her, she doesn't talk much but is sure as hell bossy yet elegant and beautiful. I can't wait to get to know her more." I continued.

I heard someone walking up to me so i quickly hid the locket in my pocket.

"Your majesty, your mother awaits you in the courtyard." A gaurd said. "Alright. I'll be there." I responded as he walked away. "Well.. I gotta go dad. I'll talk to you later." I whispered, closing the locket and hanging it around my neck.

Walking out to the courtyard, my mother called out to me, "Son! It's time to go!" I just nodded and entered the limo. I'll try to talk to the princess tomorrow morning.
