"SUGURU!" YOU EXCLAIMED. HE WAS covered head to toe in bruises and scars. "n-n/n.." he slowly fell forward. you managed to catch him before he hit the ground. suguru weakly leaned against you. "shoko!" you called out, poking your head outside. she turned to you. "suguru's back, he's hurt badly!" you added. shoko put out her cigarette and hurried inside.

"holy shit, suguru!" she spoke, noticing his injuries as you sat him down in a chair. shoko began using her technique to heal his wounds. worry filled your being. "how are you feeling?" "i'll be fine.." suguru replied, feeling over where his wounds used to be.

"suguru..is that guy dead?" you asked. he looked down. "no, he's not.." your worry amplified. "he probably went to give up riko's body, if i had to guess.." suguru said. you looked towards the ground.

he had killed satoru, riko, and kuroi. why does he just get to walk free as if it didn't happen? and the fact that you couldn't do anything about it..you've lost people that you promised to protect..you were truly useless.

you balled your hand into a fist as you released a shaky exhale. suguru took notice and stood up. "are you okay?" he whispered into your ear. "..i couldn't tell you" you replied. a concerned look appeared on suguru's features. "yo, shoko. we'll be back in a bit" he told her, earning a nod from shoko. suguru then grabbed your hand, leading you out of the room.

the sun had began to set, making the sky turn a nice orange-red color. neither of you have spoken a word yet. suguru looked at you, examining your expression. "do you feel..guilty, n/n? for everything that's happened?" he asked. you weren't too surprised he figured it out easily; he could read you like a novel.

"if i had been there to back up satoru, he wouldn't have been killed and that man wouldn't have gotten under the school. riko and kuroi wouldn't have died. we'd be hanging out right about now, talking about meaningless bullshit like we usually do" you explained, your tone void of any emotion.

you didn't even bother to look at suguru as you didn't want him to see you cry. "y/n, you can't take the blame for something like this. you're not being fair to yourself" he told you, moving in front of you. "satoru wanted us to go. you didn't leave him behind, he made that decision all on his own. as for riko and kuroi, you can't only blame yourself. at least let me take some of it too.." you simply stared at suguru, not knowing what to say.

distorted speech could be heard slowly approaching, gaining both of your attention. "it's his inventory curse.." suguru spoke, shocked. "it wouldn't just be alone like this. he's dead." hearing that made you feel a bit better, since no more innocent lives would be taken by him anymore.

you watched as suguru tensed up; he had made a realization. your boyfriend held his hand out, turning the inventory curse into a ball. it was the first you've seen him use his technique for something other than summoning curses. "why'd you..tense up, suguru?" you questioned. a quiet gulp could be heard before he replied. "i'll show you soon. head back to shoko, okay?" he spoke.

suguru placed a kiss on your forehead. "and don't overthink this. you had nothing to do with any of the deaths that occurred. you don't have to feel guilty over every little thing, n/n" he told you before walking off. you watched him walk before heading back to shoko.

you and shoko hung around in the hallways of the school, not saying anything to each other. there was still a tension that hung in air due to recent events. you perked up upon hearing footsteps approaching. your eyes then widened. "oh, satoru! took you long enough" shoko spoke as she walked over to him and suguru.

"s-satoru..SATORU..!" you ran over and embraced him, starting to sob. "i'm sorry for not being there! it won't happen again! i'll be stronger!" you promised. satoru looked at you, a neutral expression on his face.

this would be the first time that he didn't feel anything for you. under different circumstances, he would've happily returned the embrace and wiped away your tears, ensuring that everything's okay. but right now..he just didn't care.

you eventually pulled away, composing yourself. "when you're ready..let's go out to eat, okay?" you suggested. "sounds good" shoko replied. you looked at the two boys. not even suguru seemed in the mood for anything. "suguru?" he tensed up at the sound of his name. "apologies..yeah, that sounds great, n/n" he replied, now embracing you. suguru buried his face into the crook of your neck as you hugged back.
