ACE
"Welp, I'm off for another day of lookout!" I declared to the head officer, Viper. He nodded in understanding then gave me the good to go and reporter kit. As I was on my usual stroll around town I saw a faint glint in the sky.
"What could that possibly be?" I think as I continue my walk, even though Aquarius is just as normal as ever. I take a quick stop into my favorite cafe and get the special they made exactly for me. A large, light iced coffee with caramel syrup and hazelnut. Then, to make it a full meal, they throw in a ham and cheese bagel with one round of toasting the buns.
"How you doing today, Ace?" The barista asks me.
"Great, actually. This city report gig is going well!" I babbled, like I always do.
"Why do you talk so much? Are you sure they even want to talk that bad? Damnit! You even think too much!" My thinking booms over what the barista says, and I subconsciously pay without even thinking how much I'm coughing up.
"Thanks! I better get going." I do a little wave as I take the food and leave. I notice the strange glint from earlier has gotten bigger and doesn't seem to be the sun.
"Yeah, no that really ISN'T from the sun." I panic a little, realizing we are about to be hit by some kind of meteor. But then, I realize that the atmosphere is so thick it's likely to shrivel up before impact.
"Man, that's uhh... really picking up speed..." I think to myself as I continue my walk. I overhear someone talk about it and the other person also dismisses it as a small meteor.
I ignore the thoughts about the meteor and power through the rest of my walk and realize nothing interesting has happened yet, which isn't usually out of the ordinary. I decide to jot down the meteor in the report log, but as I'm ready to head back to the station I hear a loud explosion from my left.
"THE METEOR!" I go right back into panic mode as citizens become increasingly concerned seeing me sprint to wherever the crash site may be. I pass by where the two who were talking about the meteor, and they've obviously turned and ran.
As I reach the outskirts of town, I see a mushroom cloud reaching its peak, but I still feel fine. The meteor has left a giant crater that even a blind man could see.
"HELLOOOO? IS ANYONE DOWN THERE?" I shout down the crater, hoping nobody got trapped under the rubble.
I hear the faintest sound, what seems to be a low groan. And I wonder if it's some kind of monster from space.
"Should I check down there? There could be someone seriously hurt! But.. what if it's one of those cosmos crunchers Jerry was telling me about? Why do you think so hard about these things? Trust your gut and go save him Ace!" I stop thinking and immediately go to investigate the crash site, seeing a...
A crab?
"Did he die riding the meteor? Is HE the meteor?" I dismiss the thought and check for a pulse, then throw his arms over my back, being careful not to accidentally inject my venom.
I carry the crab back up to the surface and ready the electricity within me.
"I WILL save this man. He could kill me for all I care, but I'll die knowing I saved someone!" I rub my tentacles together, building up the charge. I place them on his chest, and let it all out in a controlled shock, in an attempt to get his heart started again.
"CLEAR!" I shout out to nobody. His left eye jolts open and he immediately starts hyperventilating. The crab starts screaming as if he was still burning, so I let him get it all out before I start talking to him.
"I did the right thing." I smile to myself as he calms down, readying himself for some kind of speech.
