I must've looked absolutely starstruck walking into the place with the glorious scents Ace was taking me to, because he giggled every time he looked over to me.

"So you're probably starving aren't you? Luckily I've got some spare pocket change!" Ace grinned.

"What pockets?" I can feel the stupidity in my gaze, realizing I just thought out loud at the most embarrassing time.

We stared at each other for a moment, then laughed it off and continued to a counter, where Ace chatted with a giant squid. The poor guy looked like he barely fit in this place, but my thoughts were suddenly disrupted when he turned to me.

"What'll it be for you sir?" His voice overpowering any chance I had of preparing a response. I stood there for a second, holding a dumb expression and staring dead at the screen above him with various food items, all looking so good.

I can't gather myself up to respond, and Ace takes the wheel for me, ordering me a coffee with ingredients I couldn't recite after a 4 hour study session and some kind of sandwich. Shortly after, we found a table, seating ourselves by a window with a great view of the bustling street.

"Thanks for the help back there, I'm not sure I would've ever come up with anything myself." I rambled.

"Oh, it's nothing, really!" Ace responded with the same kindness as always.

"Should I ask him about... ugh. I've lost the name again. I need to focus on right now anyways." I think to myself as a seahorse with a similar expression to the squid brings us our food.

"Enjoy." He deadpans and drifts away. Ace rolls his eyes and I can tell he doesn't like this seahorse too much.

"Who put him on the planet?" I mentally sneer as my eyes fall onto the best looking sandwich I've ever seen. It's light toasting, its perfect balance of ingredients and condiments, its hierarchy of flavors and the order of which they explode unto my mouth.

"It's..."

"My godph... it's... AMAPHING!" Bits fly out of my mouth as I revel in the touch of god that this sandwich is. Ace can't help but laugh as I devour the simple meal he gifted me.

"No... sandwich isn't good enough to describe this piece of heaven. There is no flaw to this... this THING!" My eye widens as more flavor flows in.

Then the high I'm riding only flies farther up as I take a sip of the coffee. The smoothness of the creamer, the blend of cultures, the sweetness of the coffee itself, it's all too perfect for me as I down it all in one fell swoop.

Ace stops laughing after I finish chugging the coffee, and stares me down with a look of fear and admiration.

"Did you seriously just drink an entire cup of coffee right after being served it?" He blinks and his jaw drops a little, which he swiftly fixes.

And then I'm hit with another burning situation before I could respond. It's too painful to bear, and I spit out any remaining bits of food and drink that I had caught between my teeth.

Ace is taken aback and dodges a particularly large chunk I spat out, then immediately goes back to laughing.

"I guess nobody is that heat tolerant." He chuckles to himself. I dawn a look of relief and start laughing with him.

"I couldn't help it, it was just too good!" I added. I see the seahorse from earlier glaring at us from behind the counter, as if he cares enough to come stop us.

"There's still a couple more places I want you to see, so we should get out of here and get going!" Ace piped.

"Like what?" I respond, noticing that Ace seems to be talking slightly less than when I woke up.

"Oh not much, just some shops and meeting up with old friends I want you to know." He rambles on, twirling figurative hair with his long tentacles.

"Well, what stopping us? I say let's get going!" It's not even twelve seconds before I'm out of the cafe, as Ace told me it was, and on the other side of the road. The citizens of this city disregarded me for the most part, but I swear I saw some kind of worm from the corner of my eye.

I glanced to my left, but it was gone. I couldn't help but shake the feeling I was being watched either.

"Little fast there, buddy!" Ace sneaked up from behind me and I flinch as he places a tentacle over my shoulder. I take a step back and Ace hits me with an inquisitive stare that reaches deep into my soul.
