When you noticed Levi being more distant than usual, you grew worried. Sure, he kept his space from everybody, but today was a whole different level. He came out for breakfast, got his tea, and hasn't left his office since. At around evening time, you grew curious- and being part of his squad- you wanted to make sure he was doing alright. Readying yourself to tend to his needs, whatever they may be.
Knocking on his door, you waited patiently outside before hearing a grunt inside, and a voice loud and strong.
"Who is it?" He annoyingly asked behind the large wood door. You took a deep breath before responding, fidgeting with the hem of your shirt.
"Cadet Y/N, sir." You look down to your boots and notice a little bit of dirt, mentally cursing to yourself as you heard a muffled voice through the door.
"Come in." he said, barely loud enough for you to hear. You slowly touch the doorknob before twisting it, allowing yourself entrance into your captains office.
You entered his office to see everything as it normally is, neat and tidy- not a single speck of dust in sight. When you averted your eyes to your captain, you noticed his hair was disheveled, his eye bags severely evident, his tea cup lacking his usual tea, his eyes and hands buried on the papers in front of him.
He gave you the same look he gave everybody else. You would occasionally check up on him- he knew very well you look out for him, and was very grateful that somebody looked out for him in ways he couldn't do for himself.
Neither of you figured out your feelings for each other yet, but stolen glances, smiles (at least on your part) from across the room, silent conversations just through eye contact, and the rosy cheeks you would get when you were around him were enough for anybody paying attention (Hange) would take note of.
As for Levi, not much changed. The feeling was creeping up on him, but not enough for him to notice quite yet- as he's unfamiliar with such things. He'd make sure you were eating your meals, searching for your ponytail in the Mess Hall, watch over you more than the others while training, he even once scolded you for not getting enough sleep- which is ironic huh?
You walked over to his desk, sitting yourself on the chair across from his. He shifted in his seat, popping his fingers and back, and let out a long sigh before resting his eyes on you.
You could see his tiredness, as it was evident as the sun shining throughout the day. His eyelids halfway closed, his hair slightly covering the blue hues of his eyes.
You frowned, saddened by the fact your captain hasn't taken care of himself. You shifted closer to the desk, leaning towards your captain while your hands rested on his desk.
His eyes followed your movements and went back to your eyes as you slightly tilted your head in worry.
"Captain," you began, looking at all the papers scattered on his desk, "might I suggest taking a break?" He scoffed in attempt to hide his tiredness and looked to the side.
"I don't need a break L/N." He said. You knew he was
being closed off and often- if not all the time- pushed everybody away. You didn't want to pry into any of his personal space, but you wanted to make your point across."Captain," you began again, this time your voice being a little more softer than before. "I noticed you weren't at lunch or dinner. I just ask you at least energize your body and allow yourself to feel relaxed." You looked worriedly into his eyes while his pierced into yours.
"I know you don't like when others intrude on your personal space too much, as do I, so I won't be all in your face telling you what to do," You stated, voice still as soft as silk. "If you need me to get you anything, I'll be in the library until around eight."
To the naked eye, nobody could notice, but the way you looked into his eyes, they softened the slightest bit. He once again sighed and rubbed his eyes, attempting to shake himself awake.
He grunted and placed the papers in a neat stack. "Thanks." He mumbled, not knowing how to handle such welcomeness and desire to care for him.
You nodded before getting up, sighing to yourself. "I'll head on out Captain, but I'll check on you again tonight if that's alright," You slightly pushed the chair back to where it was, and began making your way to the door. "Have a good night, Captain."
With that, you quietly shut his door, and he didn't move until he heard the click. He looked around the room, then down at his desk before getting up, and doing this strange, taking care of yourself thing.
He showered, which allowed him to feel more freshened up and got more tea. There weren't anymore food left, as all the growing teenagers ate all the leftovers. Sighing to himself, he decided to make his way to the library at around seven in the evening.
Teacup in hand, he entered the library as his eyes immediately began searching for you. It wasn't long before he noticed your hair peeking from atop of the shelf.
Quietly walking over to where you were, he saw you sprawled out on the floor, quietly reading your book and taking notes. He realized you were studying- but as far as what you were studying, he was clueless.
Your back was turned to him, so he silently stood for half a minute, before deciding to leave. He didn't want to intrude on your space.

At around ten at night, you got ready for bed before realizing you forgot your check in with your captain for the last time tonight. Mentally cursing yourself, you left your hair down, pj's and slippers on, you made haste to your captains headquarters.
Slightly out of breath, you stopped to catch your breath and made it to his door. Silently knocking, you stood out as goosebumps spread from the breeze coming through the windows.
Levi opened it and saw you standing there, almost relieved as he enjoyed your company- but would
never admit that. He opened the rest of the door without saying a word, so nobody would hear either of you.Upon entering his room, you turned to look at him with the same worry in your eyes from earlier. His eye bags were still evident, but his hair was neat and he looked freshened up.
"How are-"
"You don't-"
You both spoke at the same time, pausing and filling the room with awkwardness before he gestured for you to go first.
"How are you feeling, Captain?" You questioned, voice with the same concern from earlier. He looked at you with softer eyes this time, and voice softer than usual.
"I'm alright." He mumbled and sighed, knowing he's not telling the full truth.
You took the risk and put a hand on his bicep- not anything sexual or inappropriate- but as a gesture to show your support.
His muscles tensed with the touch of your hands on him. He quickly averted his eyes to yours and slightly frowned. With a deep breath, what came out of your lips were natural.
"Captain, I understand you may not have close relationships with anybody, but I would like you to know I'm here for you," you began, feeling a little nervous as this was a huge step forward in both of your guys friendship. "I'll be here when you need somebody to vent to, somebody to lean on, I'm willing to share the burden with you. I'll be here even through your hard times."
He was shocked, his eyes twice the size of yours, eyebrows pinned up, muscles still tense. He wondered if this is what it's like to have somebody to lean on. He was grateful, but shocked in a way, feeling as if he didn't deserve such care and compassion.
With lots of respect and patience on both sides, Levi eventually became comfortable with you, often coming to you about his worries, nightmares, or whatever he may need. You were there for him when he needed you.
Love is patient, love is kind.
