It was the day of the dance, Y/N woke up early to get herself ready before the festival started
Y/N wore a long light blue dress as she didn't have anything white and let her hair loose and not the usual ponytail or bun
"That should be all done...I feel so nervous" Y/N wipes off the seams of her dress and patted down the small creases that were forming
Upon arriving at the said place Y/N saw all of the residents in one place. She saw George grumbling to Evelyn in a corner and the kids running around in the middle.
"Hey! You've arrived!" Abigail waved from afar, her face beaming
"I had to tend to the farm before heading over, I hope I'm not too late?" Y/N looks around to confirm that she was the last one to arrive.
"Such a hardworking person aren't you?" Sam chuckled, placing his hands on his hips as Sebastian just briefly nods his head
Y/N scratched her head, a little embarrased to hear it coming from them.
Y/N then went around talking to the other residents, seeing if she could get partnered up with someone if possible.
"Hey Emily! Have you found a dannce partner yet?"
"Usually we'd have just enough but since you're here...hmm, I suppose I could-" Emily was interrupted by Shane coming in and saying that the dance was about to start
"I- Sorry Y/N it seems like I'm taken too" Emily laughed weirdly, before following Shane
"Well that's totally not weird...."Y/N watched the two move to the other side of the place.
From another corner, a blonde was looking straight at Y/N, with her hand resting on her cheek as if contemplating something.
"Alex could you do me a favour? Why don't you dance with the new girl, I will be dancing with my sister" Haley moved towards Emily and swiftly places her arms around Emily's waist
"Uh...sure?" Alex walked over to Y/N who seemed a little lost but got interrupted when Penny approached her aswell
"Penny? Alex? Whats up?" Y/N felt it was odd to see these two at the same place
"Sam had to leave early, he was having a stomache ache from eating all the deserts..." Penny glanced at Alex who was ruffling his hair
"I....was just passing through.." Alex moves on, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
Y/N watched him walk away before Penny started speaking again, breaking her off from her thoughts
"Do you have a partner Y/N? If you don't mind...?"
Y/N nodded eagerly, glad she was able to get someone she's known a little as her partner instead
"Alright folks! Let's have our dancers in the middle shall we?" Mayor Lewis annonuced and the participants all moved towards the center
Haley who was now partnered with Emily noticed that Alex was nowhere to be seen and that Y/N was now dancing with....Penny?
Haley glanced over to her right, gaining Y/N's attention who immediately whipped her head towards her, so fast that it could have flown off
"Goodness...what happened to- Did you happen to see Alex" Haley asked, looking directly at Y/N, ignoring the glances from Emily and Penny.
"Alex? I did...aren't you supposed to dance with him?" Y/N tilted her head slightly in confusion
"Just a spur in the moment change..." Haley looked back towards Emily as Mayor Lewis started playing the song
Everyone started dancing with their partners as the others watch. There was an uplifting atmosphere and everyone genuinely had smiles on their faces.
"You're really good Y/N! Are you sure you've never danced before?" Penny asked as she chuckled at the expression Y/N was making.
"Uh...really? Are you sure you're not just being nice? Because I seem to recall stepping on your foot atleast....twice" Y/N had her face scrunched up, guilty of hurting Penny
The uneasy Y/N and laughing Penny did not go unnoticed by Haley and the others
"They sure are having fun!" Emily commented, following Haley's gaze towards them.
"....they are" Haley trailed off, staring at the duo who were dancing, more paticularly towards the girl who was wearing a light blue dress.
"Having second thoughts about Y/N?" Emily giggled when her sister immediately snapped her head towards her.
"What do you mean?" Haley's tone suggested she wasn't as interested in this topic
"You've been staring at her for a long time y'know, Y/N is a nice person. You should get to know her more" Emily spoke sincerely, she knew that Y/N would be a good friend to have
"....I know" Was all that Haley said before looking away from Y/N and Penny's direction
An hour has passed and everyone was pretty tired from dancing and cheering on which meant it was the perfect time to have some refreshments
"Listen up folks! Some refreshments have been prepared on my right, so feel free to grab as much as you'd like" Mayor Lewis announced
The residents sighed of relief and everyone crowded the refreshments.
As it was Y/N's turn to get some, Haley came up to her and placed her hand on Y/N's shoulder as her other hand held onto her cup
"Yes...?" Y/N turned around, seeing Haley close to her with a small smile on her face
"For someone who always wore drags, this dress looks really good on you Y/N" Haley whispered in Y/N's ear
Y/N stood there mouth wide as Haley giggled and left her there.
"Hey kid, you better get your self some water with how big you have your mouth open" Pam snickered from behind the refreshment stall
Y/N hurriedly got herself a cup, trying to fight off her face from turning red as she struggled with turning the water faucet on and off.
Abigail, Sebastian and Sam stood from afar watching their new farmer friend clumsily pour themself a cup of water.
Meanwhile, Haley who had left Y/N met back up with Alex and asked him about why he wasn't the one dancing with Y/N
"I mean she wasn't alone so I figured it was fine. I can't just force her to choose me to dance with" Alex reasoned, a calm expression on his face
"Yes but you should've made over to her a little faster" Haley said as a matter of fact
Before Alex could say another word, Haley caught sight of Y/N who was fumbling with the refreshments and Pam who seemed to be laughing at her.
She was about to intervene before noticing the light red hue forming on the tip of Y/N's ears. Seeing that made her chuckle as she told Alex to forget about whatever she had said before.
