Hye-Jin once again slept alone that night

Hye-Jin once again slept alone that night. Sleep evaded her again. She had slept alone on several occasions, especially because of how frequently Jaehyun traveled for work. However, she'd be in her nest surrounded by his scent. This time it was different.

Her wolf was too hurt and having his scent around was painful. Her wolf felt as if their mate and son didn't want her around and was better off even without her. Hye-Jin knew it was the pain talking, but she still couldn't help it.

After tossing and turning all night, she woke early to go for a run. When she returned after an hour or so, she saw Jaehyun pacing in front of the guest room she currently occupied. He wore jeans and a t-shirt, indicating that he just went out to buy those flowers.

His head whipped around at the sound of her footsteps approaching. Maybe she went overboard by using scent blockers, thereby depriving him of her scent. If that wasn't enough, she instructed the staff to spray scent diffusers in their bedroom and installed scent neutraliser herself, thereby getting rid of her scent when he wasn't around.

She usually took those steps after her heat to dissolve the heat pheromones and air out their room. And she dismissed the staff earlier than usual these past two days so no one was aware of their feud.

Jaehyun also knew how particular she was about these things. Whenever they had a disagreement they sorted it out between the four walls and never let anyone find out. It was the same this time around.

He shifted from one foot to the other, looking guilty. "Sweetheart..." he called.

"Not now," she mumbled tiredly. "Leave me alone."

"What do I do to make this right?" his tone was pleading and eyes red-rimmed. "I swear I'll do anything to make it up to you. I miss you too much, baby. Please forgive me."

She blinked away the tears burning her eyes and sniffed. "You hurt me too much, Jaehyun." Her voice slightly cracked. It was hurting her too but being around him hurt more. "You didn't trust me."

"That's not true," he replied weakly.

"You didn't even give me a benefit of doubt," she hissed. "You both thought I wasn't that important. I guess you would be better off without me now."

Jaehyun cursed. "Baby, please...you're killing me. I asked for your trust." He grabbed her elbow, squeezing gently. "You told me to do something. This...This was me doing something."

"Why?" Her voice was too hurt. "Why, alpha? Why didn't you tell me something sooner? Why didn't you think of confiding in me when you make an important decision such as this?"

"Because I knew only Jungkook could set him back on the right path," her mate admitted. "It didn't cross my mind until I met Jeong-Ho again. You know we had no contact with them because that's how Jeong-Ho preferred it. So when I went to the hospital and saw Jungkook, something changed. I asked Jeong-Ho if he would give his son to Jimin without thinking twice. Jungkook was hard working and shouldered such responsibility at such a young age. I thought Jimin's life would be better with someone like him. Someone who didn't marry him for the money or the power that came along with it." He exhaled. "Even then I didn't think Jimin would accept. You were desperate and so was I. As much as I tried to give him the freedom he desired, I was ready to put my feet down and use my voice as his father to set him straight. Then that night I saw him reacting to Jungkook's scent on me. It was only then I remembered the bond he created with Jungkook as a pup. Baby, you know how the imprint works. While I hoped, I could only leave things to fate and time. It's true I asked them to meet, but Jimin refused the idea of mating a regular omega. He didn't want to mate or commit to an omega," he continued, voice and scent sincere. His forest scent carried regret and sorrow. "My love, I had no idea how both of them would feel until they actually met. Our son asked me for more time to be sure about how he felt about this relationship. I didn't know what to tell you, but I hoped it worked because I was worried about our son too."

Hye-Jin clenched her jaw. So much information held back from her for so many years. She didn't know how to process them in a matter of minutes. She didn't know if she should process them at all.

"Please...yell at me. Say something. Your silence is killing me," he pleaded.

She exhaled, letting her tears fall. "I met that pup today." When she lifted her head to look at him, her resolve was steel like. "He has that fire inside him and Jeong-Ho's spirit. He will survive. That doesn't mean he is ready to face what's coming his way." Her features hardened even more. "You have selfishly set that pup up for slaughter. Jimin cannot protect him round the clock. What the hell were you even thinking?" she growled. "When I told you to take care of him, this isn't what I meant."

Jaehyun swallowed. "They will think twice before messing with the Park family. I'll make sure no one messes with him. I promise I won't let the media or the business associates bully him or our son over this."

Hye-Jin scoffed. "The media and the business associates must be the least of your worries. You know very well how our world works. They're gonna rip him apart, Jaehyun. He's still an innocent pup. How could you? Did you ever think how anyone is ever going to respect him? What will happen if he ever crosses paths with Myeong-suk, Sooyeon and the likes of them? Words hurt more than you think, Jaehyun. How do you plan to protect him against them?"

More guilt flooded his features.

"That pup has no clue how our world works and how judgmental our folks can be. They won't dine in the same room as him. How do you expect them to share the same table they sit at?" She rubbed her temples, pacing the corridor. "You stubborn alphas will never know what omegas have to go through. You never think from our shoes. Freaking. Stubborn. Mules!"

"Jungkook has seen the worst of our world," he reasoned weakly.

"That doesn't equate the shit he will be put through once they learn what he means to our son." She poked a finger at his chest, her gaze burning holes into him. "You promised to protect him but you didn't stop once to think how his future is going to be as a Park family member. They will chew him up and spit him out like he doesn't matter. Their pups will be ridiculed for having a regular omega as their parent. You have signed him up to walk on a path of hell fire throughout his life. How could you?!" Her voice rose, echoing off the halls. "Jaehyun, I fucking swear I'll never forgive you if something happened to Jeong-Ho's son. I promised to protect that pup and be a parent figure in his life, but I didn't mean it this way." More tears fell. "And you set me up on a warpath by still taking his side and still believing this is all going to work miraculously. I don't see it yet. I can only see him crumbling under all this pressure. How could you stand in front of me and claim heartlessly that he can do this? That pup hasn't even graduated school!"

Jaehyung hung his head, his scent bubbling with remorse.

"I cannot forgive you yet," she said. "Leave and take those damn flowers with you. They don't make me smile like they used to do. Rather I want to rip each petal off and crush them while cursing you to hell and back." She glared at him. "We will talk when I'm ready to talk."

Hye-Jin entered the room, slamming the door shut on his face before breaking down. Her shoulders shook. She shut her eyes. Jungkook was a strong omega and she believed she could stand on his feet, but how good would his resolve be when they flock at him like bees?

She had no answer now. Only time could tell and she hoped her son was ready when the time came.
