A humongous stack of papers are littered around me, I've been wading through a swamp of undergraduate essays – it's a tedious task but my only relief of seeing her once.
I have always looked forward to her visit in my office hours, it's the prime highlight in my monotonous academic hours.
I am too lost in the sea of student theisis handwritings, that I nearly miss it. A crisp, white form, nestled amongst the graded assignments. "Dissertation Proposal Forms," the heading reads
I flip through them casually, my eyes scanning names, advisors. Then, I see hers.
Naisha Roy .
My breath hitches. A lava of rage courses through me as I trace the letters of her name with a my thumb, a volcano of possessive fire burning through me.
My eyes halt on the next line, the line I've been subconsciously yearning, expecting, even demanding to see my own name on.
Instead, in black letters over the white paper, is: "Dissertation Advisor: Dr Snehesh Ghosh ."
My fingers tighten around the proposal form, the paper crinkling in his grip.
" Ghosh " I mutter, the name tasting like ash in my mouth.
How dare she choose him.
I read it again, and again, as if sheer repetition could somehow conjure my name in its place.
" This rascal snehesh trying to steal what's mine " I nearly spit the name,
I immediately stand up, pacing around the confined space of my office, agitation radiating off me in waves.
"After everything," my voice sounds like a low growl, "After all the extra time, the guidance the encouragement I gave her? She chooses snehesh ?"
Why
Why
Why
Does she like him ?
The hell I'll let her.
I snatch up a pen holder, and throw it, sending pens scattering across my desk with a clatter.
"How can she select that useless snehesh with his stupid lectures, is she attracted to him ?" I stop pacing, my fists clenching at my sides.
I stare at her name on the form, a cold dread forming in my stomach, twisting alongside the white-hot fury.
What if she seriously likes him.
"This… this isn't happening," I grit my teeth "She wouldn't… she can't mean this."
I grab my phone, my thumb hovering her contact, a storm of conflicting impulses raging within me
I stare at the screen, the flames of jealousy and anger rising within me. I take a deep breath, trying to compose myself, but the words erupt from my mouth like a burst dam. “What does she see in him? He’s not even half the professor I am!
