The grandfather clock in the house chimed at midnight. Jerome and Alfie had snuck up earlier to meet Patricia in her room. Nina's initiation ceremony was about to begin.
The Clarke boy had caught Daphne standing in her doorway, signalling for him to come over before he followed in to the other girls' room.
"Promise me the plan is just to have Nina up in the attic to get something out." She said softly to the boy, her nerves climbing each second. Jerome placed his hands on her shoulders, making her look into his eyes to show his sincerity as he spoke, "I promise all Alfie and I agreed on was to get Nina in to the attic."
Daphne sighed, nodding her head. She knew neither of the boys came up with the idea as she was present when Patricia told them her plan. But she had been avoiding the Williamson girl whenever she could and Daphne's gut was telling her that Patricia's idea was not simple.
"Jerome!" The pair turned to Alfie who had loudly whispered from the other room, gesturing for him to come. The blonde boy looked back to Daphne, who still looked nervous as if she was the one going up to the attic that night.
He didn't know what else he could say to comfort her in the moment, so he decided on placing a quick kiss on her forehead before heading in to Patricia and Nina's room.
Slightly stunned, Daphne slowly closed the door as she watched the other room door close. As she turned around, Daphne's eyes widened in shock from how Amber and Mara were staring at her with their mouths agape.
"Did we just see Jerome kiss you?" Mara asked with a smile on her face. "It was on the forehead," Daphne shrugged, not thinking much of it, "It doesn't mean anything."
Amber and Mara shared a look with each other before turning to face their roommate who watched the exchange with furrowed brows. Having grown up together in boarding school, Daphne wasn't new to Jerome's rare affectionate side.
Just before Amber could say anything, there was a knock on their door: The signal to move out to the corridor for Nina's initiation.
Four of them stood in the corridor that led to the attic. Amber next to Fabian while Daphne and Mara stood opposite of them.
The blonde girl leaned closer to the boy who was keeping a look out for Nina, "Where's Mick?" Startled by her voice, Fabian flinched as he turned back to the girls who were waiting for his answer.
As roommates, Fabian knew that Mick had chosen not to join in as he did not want to see his girlfriend and a certain housemate after what had happened in drama class. But he knew better than to tell Amber that.
"He didn't want to come," Fabian shrugged, hoping to come off as nonchalant as possible. "Tired or something."
As the other four approached the corridor, Patricia shushed Fabian, effectively getting their attention. As they turned to look over at the four who had finally joined them, they jumped in their spots from how Jerome and Alfie were flashing their flashlights on their poker faces.
Daphne dropped her shoulders as she met Jerome's eyes, showing she was not impressed by their antics but her attention soon shifted back to Patricia when she spoke.
"Oh spirits of Anubis House, guide the new girl on her initiation quest. And keep her from harm in the haunted attic." Patricia aimed her torchlight to Nina.
"Oh, come on this is ridiculous," Fabian interrupted moving his torchlight away from his face. The other three girls nodded their heads in agreement. "I don't see what her going up the attic will prove," Daphne sighed as she pinched her brows together, still unable to shake off the weird feeling in her gut.
