Everyone gathered early for breakfast since Jerome and Alfie were the ones on duty. They were afraid Alfie would've finished most of the muffins while helping Trudy set the table.
Jerome walked over to the table, setting the plate of muffins on the table carefully as Alfie hovered over him wanting to get one already.
He looked over to where Daphne was stirring her tea, frowning as she had yet to speak to him after last night.
At that moment, Nina entered with a smile on her face, knowing that Amber and Fabian had probably already told the others she had gotten out.
The few of them clapped, Jerome and Alfie thoroughly impressed she had managed to stay clear of Victor when he had gone up "We were certain Victor was gonna get you." Jerome admitted, taking a muffin as he rounded the table to his seat next to Daphne.
"Yeah, either Victor of the flesh eating zombies," Alfie bent down to where Nina sat, wriggling his hands about dramatically.
"No zombies, mostly rat bones," Nina laughed, recalling the sight she saw last night. "Cool," Alfie took a muffin for himself with a smile on his face.
Patricia glared from where she sat at the opposite end of Nina. She was not at all happy that the American had managed to get out of the attic.
"Was it really scary up there?" Mara asked, wanting to know more about the place none of them dared to explore. "I thought it'd be worse," Nina shook her head, looking at the others. "It was actually kinda cool. I might move up there," She joked, looking straight at Patricia whose eyes narrowed.
"Don't you think she was brave?" Amber asked, proud of the new girl she was beginning to get close to. Daphne nodded her head, smiling to the new girl, "Definitely." Nina returned the smile, in a much better mood this morning in comparison to the last few days.
"Even you have to admit Patricia, Nina passed her initiation test with flying colours," Fabian took a bite out of his toast, not noticing Patricia's glare towards him.
"No, she didn't bring anything back did she?" Patricia reminded them of the main objective, looking between him and Nina. She refused to believe that Nina had successfully managed to complete her plan, especially with everyone singing praises for the girl.
"Well, actually," Nina trailed off as she dug into her bag. Everyone looked at her in astonishment as she pulled an obviously old book out. Jerome laughed, clapping for the girl as Alfie exclaimed in excitement, "Yes!"
Patricia scoffed, storming off making Mara go after her, "Patricia, wait!" Daphne and Amber shared a look, knowing why Mara was suddenly buddying up with Patricia.
As Daphne was about to speak to Amber, Jerome got her attention, "Daph, can we talk?"
The other four around the table looked at each other. Amber tilted her head, gesturing for them to leave the dining room at the serious look on Jerome's face. The three veteran Anubis residents could sense the tension between the pair, especially with how Daphne had avoided Jerome since she had came down.
Daphne leaned back against her chair, crossing her arms over her chest, waiting for Jerome to speak. He glanced at the doorway, ensuring they were not in hearing range before turning to face the girl.
"Last night, I did not lie when I promised you that Alfie and I were only involved in getting Nina into the attic. You have to believe me," He place his palms together, eyes scanning her face to see if he could figure out what she was thinking.
"Okay," The Devi girl nodded, bring her cup of tea to her lips. "Okay?" Jerome repeated, not entirely sure what she meant by that.
"Okay, I believe you," Daphne turned to look a the boy who was obviously stressing over this. He was slightly shocked she didn't resist and start an argument. Not that he wanted one, no. Never with her.
