The first thing I heard was the singing of birds outside when my senses slowly started to come back from my slumber.
The second thing I felt was the icy breeze that came into my room, knocking on the reality of yesterday's events.
Dad's behaviour, Demi's argument, my collapse, and Nicolas.I opened my eyes and looked beside me as memories rushed through my mind, only to find the space empty. I gently pushed my palm forward, and I nearly felt his presence still lingering on the mattress where he previously lay with me, holding me in his arms, as I noticed the sheets crumpled, as if his warmth remained even after he had left.
Just like I asked him to.
"I am going to stay here, okay?"
"Until morning?"
"Until morning."
"But leave before anyone wakes up, okay?"
"Okay, I promise."
Promise.
One word, seven letters, yet much easier to say than do.
And the fourth thing that came crashing into my mind were the memories that I chose never to look back on.
"Jade, is that you outside?"
Aurora and I were discussing my family and the things that have been happening to me lately in the kitchen of her new home when suddenly we heard a manly laugh from outside. Like her, I expected it to be Jade, but when the said person appeared in front of me, my pulse quickened from both the sight and the presence of him.
Nicolas's eyes locked with mine as he stood on the door, and I realized that I needed to wipe away the tears on my face.
"Nick?" Aurora's eyes darted between me and him. "Did you need something?"
His eyes never stopped looking at me. "Yeah...Jade. I think he wanted to see you."
"Oh, okay." Aurora replied. "I'll be here in a minute, hmm?" She gives my hand a squeeze before leaving.
I watched her leave before my gaze went to the man standing at the doorway. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
A small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth before he strides towards me. "Maybe." He drawls.
I tried to act cool. The last thing I wanted was to look miserable. "Can't you see me happy for once?" I argued. "You have been trying to take my best friend away from me since I stepped into this house."
He crosses his arms over his chest and reaches beside me. "Your best friend has a husband who is my best friend, and I am just helping mine, making sure they can enjoy their quality time as much as possible."
