𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐍, they grow old and die. That's the world we live in. How can I deny what's right in front of me? Someone who never grows old never gets hurt. Someone who changes in ways that can't be explained. Girls bitten. Bodies drained of blood.

I slammed Elena's bedroom door shut and leaned against it. We quickly drove home to safety. My mind was swirling. This couldn't be real.

My twin immediately rushed over to her window so she could close it and I ran a stressful hand through my hair.

"Elena," Stefan's voice called out, causing us to turn around in fright, "Lia, please let me explain." I backed further away from him and my twin made an attempt to leave the room but the Salvatore cut her off, "I would never hurt you. Either of you. You're safe with me."

The girl turned around so she could look at him, "All those animal attacks, those people who died?"

He shook his head viciously, "No, that was Damon."

I scoffed, "Damon?"

"Yes. I don't drink human blood. That's not how I choose to survive but Damon does." He explained, "I'll explain everything, but I'm begging you, don't tell anybody."

"How can you ask that?" She cried.

"Because you knowing this is dangerous. For so many reasons. You can hate me, but I need you to trust me." He spoke soothingly.

"We won't say anything." I spoke up, still backed into the wall, "Just go. If you mean us no harm then you'll go."

He nodded understandingly and turned back to my twin, "I never wanted this." He whispered before leaving the room.

I let out a shaky breath, approaching Elena and pulling her into my arms.

𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐄 me go with her to the Grill to speak to Stefan. I was nervous, to say the least. I sat beside my twin with the vampire opposite us.

"You said you'd explain everything. That's why I asked you to meet," The younger girl began, "When you google 'vampire' you get a world of fiction. What's the reality?"

"I can tell you whatever you want to know." He replied.

"I know you eat garlic." My twin started.

The Salvatore nodded, "Yes."

I frowned, "And somehow sunlight is not an issue?"
