Chapter 2.
H O L L Y
My dad gave me a funny look when I asked him if I could stay the night at the Laverys place. I casually leaned against the kitchen counter, smiling innocently at him as I waited for his answer. He was in the middle of doing the dishes, the sink completely filled with soap foam.
"You're seriously asking me? You practically live with them, I don't see why you waste your time asking me," he smirked, shaking his head. I'm pretty sure my dad knows I sneak over there anyways. Every time I do, the next day he just gives me a knowing smile. I'm actually so shocked that he doesn't give me shit for it, but I'm not complaining.
"Well I just want to make sure it's okay," I shrugged, picking at my nails. "I mean, it is a ... school night and stuff."
My dad sighed. "I still don't exactly feel comforatable with you 'staying the night' with Shane. I mean, I love the kid don't get me wrong, but you two are now ... you know, together. Can you blame me for worrying?"
"Dad, dad, dad, oh you naive dad...." I dragged on, sighing dramatically as I tilted my head back. "I can guarantee you, all Shane and I do is sleep. Besides, you really think Grace would let us get away with anything? She checks up on us every five minutes." It's actually hilarious. I know that Grace does it as a joke, just to bug us. Shane and I will be in his room, doing God knows what, and then Grace will casually knock on the door and come in, asking us if we 'want something to eat or drink'.
My dad chuckled. "Yes, well, whatever. I mean, only because they're practically family."
"Dad, they are family," I corrected, giving him a 'duh' expression. My dad nodded in agreement. The man would never, ever even think about letting me stay at a guy's house. It's just because it's Shane, someone I've known since I was practically in diapers.
"Just....you know....be safe, I guess?" My dad blinked, clearly feeling awkward at getting to this part in the conversation. I groaned.
"Dad, oh my god, seriously?" I whined playfully before lightly hitting him on the arm. My dad made a face at me while I laughed.
"I'm just going to grab my things," I told him. "Don't forget, after school I'm going to go to Amber's for a bit. I'll be home for dinner, okay?"
"Alright, alright whatever. I'll just be here, you know...being ol' lonely me."
Chuckling, I made my way upstairs to grab my overnight things. I've been staying at the Laverys place a lot since Shane and I got together, it's kind of funny really considering how much I hated the twins before. Now, I don't know, I just love sleeping with him. Just being in his arms, feeling his prescence beside me, it just makes me feel safe, I guess.
Plus, I've been having these crazy nightmares recently, they've been freaking me out. Just random dreams about my mom, which is kind of strange because I haven't had upsetting dreams of her since I was a child. There's also this one dream I keep having where I'm being chased by something. But I don't know what.
I keep trying to convince myself it's the Cookie Monster, just to fill in the blanks a bit.
So a couple times I've woken up in the middle of the night gasping, feeling insanely freaked out and not knowing where I am. But then Shane wraps his arms around me and whispers sweet-nothings in my ear, I suddenly feel fine again. And then I feel embarrassed because I realise how lame I really am.
