Chapter 6.
A L L Y
"HONEY I'M HOME!" I sang loudly as I barged into my house, almost tripping on the carpet. I could hear a couple of voices coming from the kitchen, which made me raise an eyebrow. My dad can't be home, he works until ten. Confused, and kind of worried I hesitantly made my way to the kitchen to see who was talking to my mom.
"Mom?" As soon as I took a step into the room, my jaw immediately dropped to the floor as I looked at my brother, Brian. He was sitting at the island, drinking coffee while my mom leaned against the counter. They both saw me, and my mom's face brightened up.
"Ally, how was your day?" She asked, glancing at my brother. "Um, Brian's here."
"Yeah," I muttered, rolling my eyes. "I can see that. Hey bro, how are you doing?"
Brian smirked at me, and put his cup down. "I'm pretty alright, and yourself?"
"Eh, could be better. I didn't know you were coming today." I tried to hide the disappointment and annoyance in my voice as I spoke, but clearly my mom could see right through my mask as she glared at me.
"I was going to wait, but I took a plane a few days ago and then stayed at a friend's house in town. Why," his smirk grew even wider, his eyes full of mischief as he looked at me, "You're not happy to see your big brother?"
"No."
"Allison," my mom snapped, shooting me a look. I narrowed my eyes, and then folded my arms across my chest as my brother and I stared each other down.
"Damn Ally, what happened to you though?" Brian gave me a quick once-over, taking in what I was wearing. Putting my hands on my hips, I grinned widely at him.
"You're not a fan of clowns, bro?" I pressed, gesturing to myself. Brian rolled his eyes, and sighed deeply.
"I thought you would have stopped being weird, but I guess I was wrong," he took another sip of his drink, and my mom glared at the both of us.
"Be nice, you two," she told us. "I'm gonna head over to the farmer's market in a few minutes, I don't want you to kill each other."
"Oh, sure mom no problem," I chirped. "When you go to the market can you get me a lilac bandana?"
"A what?" Brian asked, rudely interuppting my mom before she opened her mouth to answer. I ignored him and looked at my mom hopefully.
"Sure, if you give me money for it," she raised an eyebrow, her eyes full of amusement. I rolled my eyes.
"They're only like 99 cents there," I snorted. My mom always goes to this farmer's market downtown, and they sell the coolest things at a very cheap price. I got most of my bandanas and organic jewelery from there, but I'm missing a lilac bandana from my collection.
"Fine, whatever, lilac you said?"
"Yep, thank you. I love you mommy," I gave her my best puppy dog face, ignoring when my brother scoffed at me.
"Yeah, only when you want something," she sang, looking for her wallet and keys. Brian raised his eyebrows at me, and I mimicked his expression, waiting until mom left before I decided to open my mouth again.
