AN: Pretend that Lucy has a brother and her and her parents are on good terms.

Nobody at the station knows that Lucy has a brother. She did not like sharing her personal life with anyone especially when it comes to her family. Her brother, Kevin, is currently in the army over seas. He has been in the army for 5 years now and was thinking about leaving after this deployment. He missed being home with his family. He missed his sister becoming a police officer. It was about to be the end when something tragic happened.

They were in roll call this morning and Lucy had this gut feeling something was going to happen. She tried to keep her mind off of it because she does not want her gut to be right in this circumstance. As usual, she was riding with Tim. She felt a lot safer knowing that he was with her.

They go on patrol and Lucy was not speaking as much as she usually did which worried Tim. He knew that something was wrong when she is not talking.

"What is the matter Chen?" he asked.

"I don't know. I have this gut feeling something bad is going to happen but I cannot figure out what it is," she said.

"I am here if you need anything. I know the others feel the same way," he said.

"Thank you. I have something to tell you guys at lunch," she said.

"Okay," he responded confused.

Everyone finally met up for lunch and Lucy was getting scared to tell everyone about her brother. She never speaks about her family with her friends.

"I have something to tell you guys," she said.

"What is it?" they all asked.

"I know I do not talk about my family with you guys and it is for a good reason. When I talk about them, I feel a lot of pride with it but I also feel like I want to keep them to myself," she said.

The others were looking at her confused and wondered why she is telling them now about her family.

"I have a brother. His name is Kevin and he has been in the army for about 5 years now. He is currently over seas and he wants to get out after this deployment. I try not to talk about him being in the army because I was mad at him for a while. He signed up after we had a huge fight and left the next day," she said.

"Lucy, I am so sorry. He sounds like a great guy. I do not believe that he signed up because of you. I believe he wanted to make a difference in the world,"Angela said.

Just then, Lucy's phone rings. She looks down and sees that it is the army. Her heart sank when she say it.

"Excuse me one moment," Lucy said while she answered the phone.

"Hello this is Lucy Chen," she said.

"Hi this is Sargent Wright of the Army. I am sorry to tell you this but your brother, Kevin Chen, was killed this morning. I am so sorry for your loss and we are always here for what your family needs," he said before hanging up the phone.

Lucy's heart broke. She did not show any emotions and immediately dialed her mother not caring that her friends were right there about to heat what happened.

"Hi Lucy. Are you excited? Your brother will be home soon," Vanessa said.

"Mom. Sargent Wright just called me mom," she said about to cry.

The others but Tim did not know what was happening. Tim was in the army before he became a police officer. He knew what these phone calls were.

"What do you mean Sargent Wright called you? What did he want?" she asked.

"Is dad there? I do not want to say it twice," Lucy said.

"Yes. You are on speaker," she said.

"Mom, dad, Kevin was killed this morning. I do not know all the details but I am sure that they are going to want to meet with us soon. Guys. I am so sorry. I will be by soon," she said while crying.

She hung up the phone and dropped to the ground. Everyone ran to her and gave her a hug. Tim drove her back to the station and told her that he will make sure that she has time off so that she can grief her brother's death with her family.

Lucy and her family had his funeral. Lucy was surprised when her friends came to support her through the whole thing. She returned back to work 2 weeks later and has started therapy to help cope with the death. Lucy has been more open about her family with her friends and had a get together so that they can meet on a good circumstance.

Lucy still blames herself for her brother joining the army. She talks to Tim about it since he was in the army to see his perspective.
