As the man approached, his sweet voice asked, "May I have this dance?" Octavia's face instantly contorted in disgust, recognizing the speaker. "Oh, Sammy is here, the wonderful prince come to save me from this," she mocked, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Go away, Sammy.
It's Sam, you pig. You think I want to dance with you? Of course not. My father wants me to form a good relationship with your kingdom, Octavia."replied, "And that's my problem, how? Actually, why does your father want you to bond with me so much, Sammy?"
Sam shot back, "Well, Octavia, you're a woman, and my father believes... wait, why am I telling you? It's none of your concern."
Octavia protested, "Don't be like that, it's not like I'm asking you to kill someone." But Octavia's joke had struck a nerve, and Sam's expression turned defensive.
After a pause, Sam's face contorted in rage, and he screamed, "I DIDN'T KILL ANYONE! ME, KILL? NEVER! I AM THE AIR TO THE KINGDOM! WHY WOULD I DO SUCH A CRIME? DON'T YOU EVER COMPARE ME TO A COMMONER!" The crowd gasped in shock, and Sasha's eyes welled up with tears, feeling the words were directed at her. Octavia's instincts took over, and she slapped Sam, her hand cracking against his cheek. "HOW DARE YOU SAY SUCH THINGS ABOUT PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW!" she shouted.
The King intervened, "Octavia, that's enough!" but she brushed him off, her eyes blazing with fury. "Father, not now!" she snapped, continuing to berate Sam. "YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN THEM JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE ROYALTY? NO, YOU'RE NOT! YOU'RE A VILE PERSON!" As Octavia walked away, the crowd remained silent, stunned by the outburst. Sasha's eyes brimmed with tears, feeling a sense of solidarity with Octavia. The King's face was stern, but he didn't pursue the matter further, knowing the tension had been building all evening. The seeds of rebellion had been sown, and the consequences of this night's events were yet to be seen.
THE NEXT DAY
a royal maid woke Octavia up, saying, "You have a meeting, Octavia." Octavia mumbled, "Don't I have classes today?" The maid replied, "Well, no, after what you did yesterday, the king made a special program for you. So, if you may, I'd like you to get ready, and we'll do your makeup and be on your way." Octavia responded, "Okay, then."
As she got ready, the maids helped her with everything else she needed. Octavia asked, "Where is Sasha? Isn't she the one who does my makeup?" The maid responded, "Sasha doesn't come to work on Mondays. She's such a hardworking woman, and she supports the royal family with so much pride, and she's not even royalty. I have respect for her." Another maid responded, "Why have respect for a commoner?" Octavia responded before the other maid could, saying, "Sasha is special. She works way too hard. I don't think you should judge her when you don't know her." The maid replied, "Yes, my queen."
After that, Octavia made her way down the hall to the meeting room to see what her father had in store for her. She arrived and saw Sammy and the teacher from her school, who were in the middle of a conversation. Octavia replied, "Am I interrupting?" They responded, "No, you're right on time. Your whole class will undergo a program called THE SCHOOL SEARCH." Octavia responded, "Excuse me, what?!"
The king explained, "You will have three days to go to each kingdom and see the living conditions of the poor, and your teacher will explain the rest. Any questions? No? Okay, time to go." Octavia stated, "Wait, I have a question." The king replied, "Octavia, no, you don't. The transportation you will be using for the whole week is waiting. Enjoy now." He spoke politely, waving them off.
***************************************
As the cart rumbled along the dusty road, Octavia and Sam engaged in a heated debate, their voices rising and falling in a rhythmic cadence. Their classmates watched with a mixture of amusement and annoyance, eager to arrive at their destination. Finally, the cart came to a stop in front of a small village, and Octavia's eyes widened as she took in the sight before her.
A group of children, dressed in tattered clothing and barefoot, held out baskets of food, their eyes gleaming with a mix of curiosity and hunger. Octavia's confusion was palpable as she jumped down from the cart, approaching the children with a gentle smile. "Where did you get the food?" she asked, her brow furrowed in concern. "And why are you dressed so poorly?"
The children exchanged glances before responding in unison, "Our parents don't have money, but the food... we got it from a kind woman named Sasha. She has a stand just along the road. You'll see it."
Octavia's face lit up with gratitude as she thanked the children, her classmates bursting into laughter at her earnestness. "Why are you talking to them, Octavia?" someone teased, but she brushed off the question, her mind already racing ahead.
As she climbed back into the cart, she turned to the driver with a determined look. "Let's go along the road," she said, her voice firm. "I want to see where it takes us." The teacher raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Octavia's sudden resolve, but nodded in agreement. "Very well, sir. Please drive along the road. I'm curious to see where Octavia leads us."
And with that, the cart lurched forward, carrying its passengers toward an unknown destination, fueled by Octavia's insatiable curiosity and compassion.
