"You ready for your bath?"
I gulp. "Yeah."
"Open wide." I open my mouth so he can put the pill inside and swallow it. "Let me see."
I show him that the pill is gone and he grunts in approval before I hear the sound of running water. "Some day you'll be strong enough to do this on your own again, just gotta keep taking those meds first. They help you get better."
"Can I call Will?"
Something slams. A fist on a wall, maybe. "No. Haven't we been over this? If he finds out where you are, he will try and come see you, and then he will get sick too."
"I'm sorry," I whisper.
He strokes my hair. "Don't ask that again, sweetheart."
"Will I ever see Will again?"
He doesn't answer.
"What about my mom?"
"Your mom is the reason you're here. She's the reason you're sick. Why would you want to see her again?"
I sniffle. "Because she's still my mom."
"Enough. That's enough questions for today." He pulls me closer to him and starts untying my hospital gown. "Soup is for dinner."
