SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T TELL IF Coach Sata actually hates your team or not.
You stand in the back row of the court getting ready to receive another pass from your other teammates on the opposite side. The sound of volleyballs thumping against the gym floor, getting hit and passed fills the gym along with the shouts and calls your team makes.
Sweat clings to your skin, a testiment to the hell that Coach Sata has your team going through. Even though you all won the Interhigh finals she's acting as if you lost in the first round. Practice since then have been tougher than before but as you watch your teammates, it looks like it's working in your favor.
You pass the ball that was coming towards you and it goes up to Honoka effortlessly, she sets it and it goes to the other girl on your side of the court and the game begins again.
Coach Sata stands by your side of the court, and you can feel her piercing eyes on your body, inspecting your every move—waiting for you to mess up so she can willingly yell at you.
It could be the smallest mess up and she would still berate you, just like the beginning.
But back to the orginal topic, it's a true struggle to understand her. One moment she's giving you what seems like a compliment and then the other she yelling at you for having a shoe lace out of place.
Practice goes by quickly, the same drills as last weeks practice and a few six on six games put the end to the day. She gives your team a big speech about preliminaries for Spring Interhigh and releases everybody in the wild with one final warning: don't do anything stupid.
Everybody starts to take down the nets and clean up getting ready to go back to their dorms. Your eager to leave for the first time. Kuroo promised to bring you and Kenma to this new cafe that opened up that has really good drinks and your excited to go check it out. A chance to explore tokyo a little more.
You moved out here at the end of your Junior High year to play at Itachiyama, originally you lived out in Miyagi but your family never settled. It was always a new place by the end of the month and that was a primary reason you barley made any friends— other than your lack of ability to due so.
So going to the cafe with the two of them seemed like a good idea. One that you hesitated and contemplated a lot before agreeing, you even asked Minato for advice and he looked at you like you were crazy. He told you too quote unquote "please be serious. You are so lame. How did I end up with such a lame sister."
It's truly a wonderful thing to have siblings.
Aoi locks up the storage closet behind you once you toss the last of the volleyballs inside. She congratulates you on a practice well done and you do the same. Nowadays she comes to find you after school before practice, so that you two can study together and read.
