"LISTEN UP!" COACH SATA BARKS, her voice slicing through the silent air like a whip, eyes flaring up as she glares, while you and your team gather up into a huddle. The tension was high on the court after the other team called for a time-out to regroup.
Her face is a perfect picture of rage, eyes ablaze, jaw clenched tight. She's been like this since her conversation with Mrs. Mori earlier, and you wonder what your boss said to piss her off this badly.
You and your teammates know what's coming, and you watch them brace themselves for another lecture on their skills and abilities.
"I am fed up with the sloppy plays. Are you kidding me with this kind of performance? This game might not be as important as the others but that leaves no room— and I mean absolutely none to slack off. We want to win. Do you think winners play like this? Quick answer.: No."
She starts to pace around, almost knocking Coach Yamada to the ground. "We as a team need to get our shit together, and I mean now before we go to nationals and look like a bunch of dumb losers. Mistakes? Unacceptable. Distractions? Unforgivable. The next person to mess up is getting benched for the rest of the season."
"When you step onto that court, you don't only represent Itachiyama, you represent me. And I don't coach imbeciles. Focus your energy and your effort— all of it to this game, and every damn game after it. Nothing else matters!" Her eyes lock onto yours and you can practically feel her furry digging into you, like she's shooting arrows and needles with her gaze.
She looks insane and you find yourself shrinking under her gaze, for the first time.
Coach Sata steps back, allowing herself a deep breath after she's spent almost the entire time out yelling at you all. Coach Yamada pats her back telling her it was a good speech before your head coach speaks up again.
"No more excuses. No more distractions. Get it together, or get cut," her eyes burn with intensity and she waves everybody off to go sit down. Not before yelling at an innocent standby.
"We are so fucked," Aoi mumbles in your air as the huddle breaks apart. "This really isn't our year."
"What does that mean?" you ask her, confused. It seems like every year isn't her year at this point.
"Coach Sata is always mad, but it's like way worse this year," Miyuu speaks up, fixing her jersey. Next to her Keiko looks over to Honoka and they give each other knowing looks.
"Yeah well with newbies it's hard to coach a team properly," Honoka says, a sly look on her face as she looks at you. "Especially ones who are extremely self-centered."
