I was just shot. "Sean!" I scream.

My eyes snap open, I jolt up. I can't breathe, there is something in my throat. It's plastic, I claw at my face trying to remove whatever was inserted in my throat.

Several pairs of hands that weren't my own push me down against a surface. Another pulls the tube-like out of my mouth.

I vomit after the object is removed from my mouth. "Sean!" I scream, my voice is hoarse.

"Do you know who you are? Do you know where you are?," an unfamiliar voice questions me.

A woman, it was a woman's voice. "y/n Xavier," I reply.

My mouth is dry, I taste blood on my tongue. "y/n you're in the hospital," the same woman explains to me.

"Sean? Where's Sean. Charles? My brother Charles Xavier. Where is he?," I sob.

"Charles is okay, he just got out of surgery," the woman explains to me.

"I want Sean, Alex, Hank, Moira, Charles, Raven, any of them please," I demand through sobs.

"I'll go get them, they are visiting your brother," the woman explains.

I watch her leave the room. Erik betrayed us. The realization dawns on me.

I hear footsteps running toward my room, Sean bursts through the door with Alex right behind him. "Sean! Alex!" I sob.

Sean rushes to my side, "hey I'm okay, I'm okay," he brushes my hair out of my face.

I cry even more, "you're okay, you're okay," I repeat after him.

"Shaw is dead?" I question.

Sean nods, "he's dead."

"Charles?"

Sean pauses, "he was paralyzed by a bullet, but he's alive and okay," he explains.

"Raven?"

Sean and Alex look between each other, then to me. "She left, with Erik and the other mutants," Alex informs me with a somber tone.

I start hysterically sobbing, how could she? My Raven? My sister? Betraying us?

"You need to take a deep breath okay, breathe with me," Sean instructs me.

I breathe when he does, I breathe when he does, I breathe when he does. "Hank and Moira are okay," Alex interjects.

I just then realize Sean's thumb is running soothing circles on my cheek while wiping my tears away. "You were so brave," Sean comforts, "so incredibly brave."

He his other hand holds mine, "so were you, both of you," I look at the two boys.

"Do you need anything?" Alex asks while crossing the space from the door to my other side.

"I'm starving," I blurt, "can I get some food?"

"Yeah, I'll grab you something from the cafeteria, I'll be back in a second," Alex announces, turning around and walking out the door, leaving me and Sean.

Tears fall from Sean's eyes. "Why're you crying?" I ask.

"Sugar, when they got you in here they gave your odds of survival as ten percent," his voice wobbles, "I thought you had died on that beach, sugar."

He brings my hand up to his mouth and kisses it, "You went into surgery and you have been in a coma for almost a week," he explains, "I thought I was going to have to watch you die all over again," he confesses.

"Well don't worry about me dying ever again okay? I'm not getting that close to the pearly gates until I'm over ninety," I assure him.

"I haven't gone to church since I was thirteen, I haven't prayed in over four years, but I was begging to God that he would let you live," Sean confesses.

I don't know how to react to his confession, "don't tell me that I've made you all soft Cassidy," I try to joke.

He cracks a smile, "only for you sugar, I'm only soft for you. Don't ya forget it."

I want him to hold me, so I ask him to. He climbs onto the hospital bed and I lay my head on his chest. "This is so not helping the fact that the others think we're dating," I comment.

He chuckles softly, "just glad you're here with me."

A knock on the door frame draws my attention to Hank who is standing there, he was normal now. No longer in his blue form. "Hey blue," I greet him.

He strides to my bed and I sit up to embrace him. "Cut the tuff-girl crap, I'm so glad you're here with us," he mumbles into my neck.

"Okay," I agree.

I didn't have to be tuff now, I could be vulnerable. When Hank and I pull apart he takes a seat in the chair next to my bed. I let my head rest on Sean's chest again.

We all sit in silence, just glad we can be in each other's presence once again. Alex walks in carrying a brown bag with food in it and a large cup. He puts the things on a side table and opens the box for me. I sit up and my mouth waters when I see that it is my favorite food, macaroni and cheese. I start eating like a man starved.

Probably because I was up until then being fed by a feeding tube, which I guess they removed when they took out the ventilator. But I was too hysterical to notice. "Don't eat too fast you'll get sick," Alex warns.

I don't listen, but I should have. I soon have a queasy feeling in my stomach. But I am determined to keep my food down. I take a sip of the drink which was luckily ice water. "Alex you saint, thank you for getting me food."

Alex simply smiles at me and I return the gesture to him.

Sean slept in the chair beside my bed every night for the next few weeks I was in kept in the hospital. He brought me food every day and grabbed me anything as soon as I mentioned wanting it.

The first time I tried to walk, my knees were wobbly and knocking with every step. Sean held my hand every step I took until I told him I could walk without feeling like my legs would give out at any given moment.

It was a tearful reunion when I saw Charles for the first time, he was wheeled into my room in a wheelchair by Moira. It was hard seeing him in a wheelchair after seeing him stand my whole life.

At last, I was able to be discharged. Charles was discharged on the same day. All of us flew back to New York, hoping that we could rebuild our lives in some way.

I just hoped my new life would have Sean as a constant variable in it.
