3 Years Later

"Wake up, princess. We're celebrating today!"

Her eyes fluttered open and I was the first face of the day my beautiful little girl saw.

I smiled picking her up, trying get her ready for her bath.

Exactly 3 years ago today, I was blessed with the most wonderful gift a man could ever receive.

My daughter.

Riley Vanessa Perez.

Yes, Jennifer was pregnant with my baby, much to my surprise, but I adjusted accordingly and am now a single dad.

Jennifer wasn't in the right position to take care of Riley, hell she wasn't even in the right position to be having Riley, so I had to step in and do my job as a Father and man.

After having Riley, I grew up alot.

I stopped sleeping around with girls, especially without using protection.

Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter, but I didn't need another little one running around for a longgggg time.

Me and Makayla broke up, and I had to just let her go.

I started noticung that I was the paracite in our relationship, and for either of us to be truly happy, someone had to leave.

I will probably always have love for Makayla, but I'm just happy that she's now happy.

Being friends with benefits never really works after all.

"Baby we have to gooo," I whined, being held hostage by my boyfriend on the bed.

He attacked my face with kisses, just leaving me giggling.

I grabbed his face in my hands, passionately kissing him.

That was the first time he's ever said it.

We bothed smiled probably the biggest smiles ever before trying to get off his lap, but Xavier had such a tight grip on my thighs, I was stuck.

"Can I go get dressed now, sir?" I joked.

"Oh yeah, sorry. "

He let go of my thighs, and I finally was able to go put in clothes, and look at the clock.

"Shit shit shit. " I muttered. "Babe hurry up, we have to be their in 10!"

Xavier and I started dating about 8 months after Jacob and I went our separate ways. Since we were always around each other, and he was constantly flirting and being a gentlemen, it kind of happened naturally.

We moved very slowly while being together, and I was thankful for that. It made our bond alot a stronger, and now we were 2 years and counting.

I quickly threw on some light high-waist jeans, a floral crop top, and some nude heels. I slicked my hair back into a quick ponytail, rushing down the steps, to leave.

"You look beautiful babe. " He quickly pecked my lips. "C'mon lets go. "

We got into Xavier's car and he began driving.

He laid one hand on my thigh, like he usually does, and noticed my leg shaking.

"Nervous? "

I nodded biting my lip.

Today is first day I will be seeing Jacob since he had the baby.

He invited Xavier to his daughters 3rd birthday party at Chuck E Cheese's, sonce they were still friends and talked often, and I was his plus one.

"Don't be. Everything will be fine. " He lightly squeezed my thigh, reeasuringly.

"You're amazing. " I smiled kissing his cheek, and he turned a very light red.

"Aww, are you blushing?" I said shocked.

His face almost immediately turned back to how it was before, causing me to laugh.

"Oh my god, I made you blush!"

He shook his head. "God, I'll never live this down. "

"Kayla. " He said assertively.

"Oh no, don't start. I just made you blush. I basically own you. "

He laughed. "Well I own that pu-"

My phone signaled a text message, inturrupting him and I laughed.

"Nasty ass. "

He smiled big. "You love me though. "

I just smiled and let him continue to drive.

"Hey Zay." Jacob dapped Xavier greeting him first, while I just stood there awkwardly.

"Makayla." He smiled genuinely, immediately causing my awkward shyness to fade away.

"Hey. We, uh, got her a gift. I hope she likes barbies. " I said getting a smile out of him.

"She loves them." His attention shifted back towards the both of us, instead of just me.

"Thank you both for coming, Riley and I appreciate it. " He spoke before moving to greet the next little kids whi showed up looking for Riley.

Xavier and I sat down at a table, in a comfortable silence.

Even though things don't turn out the wayyou would think, it always works out for the better.

Jacob and I were happy when we were together, but are now even happier since we have grown apart.

I guess being friends with benefits never really works after all.
