Larisa•••
I use the door to shield my attire. This is not how I wanted to meet Adam's dad. Their features are similar but his beard is much more larger with fine lines to define his age. You can tell his dad is a muscle builder judging by his large and wide frame.
My eyes snap back to Adam who copies my action before gesturing for me to come closer to him. It's then that I try and wrap as much of my robe around my body as possible before standing by Adam who buries me into his side.
"Mo called me", his dad says as he takes a step into the apartment. As he shuts the door, his eyes acknowledge me briefly before looking away. "Whose this?", he says in a rather thick accent.
Adam's body tenses before he gives me a reassuring squeeze on my waist. "This is Larisa. My..", He looks at me and I stare up at his eyes to hear what he'll address me as. "My girlfriend", He confirms and my heart skips a beat for a brief moment.
I smile at him before giving his dad a smile of greeting. "Hi. Nice to meet you", I say in the most appropriate tone I can. "Likewise. Adem never mentioned a girlfriend so apologies for being surprised", He says.
I grant him a reassuring smile before Adam continues. "What are you doing here baba? [Dad]". His eyes trail up at the cane Adam's holding onto. "Since you don't want to answer my calls, Mo updated me on what happened. I thought i'd bring your car back to you and find out what's been going on. Your mom is worried sick", He says whilst placing the keys on the counter.
Adam lets go of me before his cheek caresses mine. "How about getting your things and freshening up. I need to talk to my dad", He says. "Um, okay", I say out of shyness before Adam reaches out for the keys and hands them to me.
I'm quickly to take it whilst sliding on some slippers and making my way out the door. I turn around and decide to eavesdrop on their conversation as I leave the door slightly open and peek through the slight gap.
"She's pretty. Bit young for you no?", his dad says as they make their way to sit down on the couch. "That doesn't matter to me. I'm serious about her", Adam says and I smile to myself.
I love him.
"What about Meena?", He says and my smile immediately fades at the same time as Adam's expression which turns cold. "I don't give a fuck about her", He says. "Language Adem. You might be a gangster but you're still my son".
Adam takes a while before responding and I see the vulnerability between the relationship he has with his dad. This moment makes me feel the absence of mine. If only he cared the way Adam's dad does. He actually made the effort to come and visit his son.
