William: well it's true, that's because you can't stay very late in the rainforest
George: have you seen the bears?
I: no honey, there were no bears today
William: but the real reason we are back so early is because we have to attend a reception and the "black rod ceremony" organized by the province of british columbia at the government house in victoria.
I: so should we just go downstairs?
William: yeah i think
I: what is the black rod ceremony?
William: is a ceremonial staff used on formal occasions when the monarch or his provincial representative, the lieutenant governor, is present in the legislative assembly of british columbia, the materials and symbols affixed to the rod are representative of the province and its relationship with the crown.
Maria: look who's back, mommy and daddy
I: hi honey, how was she today?
Maria: today she was a little better with her teeth, i gave her a pacifier and she didn't make a fuss
I: that's good
William: she's a really big girl
I: william and i soon have to attend a ceremony this evening, i think we'll be back late
Maria: don't worry ma'am, i'll take care of putting them to sleep

William: are you ready for a very boring ceremony and to have useless conversations with people whose names we don't even know?
I: no but we must behave as if we were
William: i'm so tired, all i want to do now is go back to the children and be with them
I: i would like too, i feel like we're neglecting them a little and just the thought makes me a horrible mom
