Rainbow collapsed onto her back, sinking into the sea of her bed sheets and drinking in the earthy afternoon aroma which drafted through the ajar window. Most times, the task of obeying the stillness of unplumbed thought was exiguous at best. But today, no such impediments existed; AJ pitched an elephantine tent in her mindscape, and Rain made no effort to pry out its steaks.
As if the cowgirl's lips were made of an enigmatical elixir, Rain still felt their incantation frolicking throughout her bloodstream, tickling her soul. She had spent the entire morning with the blonde, doing nothing particularly distinct, but affecting nonetheless. Even though she had left minutes ago now and Rain was presently on her own, she held AJ's extant intrinsically as she gazed lovingly to the ceiling.
What did all of it mean? The platonic reins had most definitely been snapped and discarded now, but there were still so many questions on the athlete's mind; What exactly were they to one another? What else did AJ want with this? What was going to happen now?
The intensity of the wonderings were beginning to overwhelm her, so Dashie rolled onto her side and grasped her phone from atop the bedside table to fall into its diversion.
Instagram stole some minutes from her before she scrolled onto a post from Earthquest's Soccer account; the team had won their big game last Wednesday and would be moving onto the finals, it stated. Rain frowned marginally. She had attended a few games and practices since sustaining her injuries, strictly as outward support, but being mentally present throughout their duration was difficult. Strangely enough--while being submerged in the action itself was possibly one of the most invigorating experiences for the young jock--simply watching it was contrastingly lifeless: a chore of sorts (though she hated to admit it). She missed being the star-coded focal point of the field, not some deficient water-boy.
Sighing, she woodenly staggered to her feet and leaned a testing step on her injured limb. Soreness throbbed at the challenge, but it was nothing unfamiliar to her now, so she dared further, gingerly surrendering more of her weight; surprisingly, the pain did not climb in unison with the added pressure.
Dr. Horse must be on something, how can you not call this 'recovered'?!
Dashie's mouth crinkled at its edge in a grin whilst she sauntered casually to the kitchen, welcoming forth the assumption of her returning competence. She crimped open a transparent, plastic container of chocolate-chunk cookies and selected the topmost one, immediately thereafter indulging in its chewy sweetness.
Just as she prepared to hunker down in the living-room space, the jingle of her phone tugged her back into its depths. In noting Fae's name, she answered the call.
"What's up?" she prompted.
Fae's voice betrayed a mildly hampered elation when she spoke. "Oh, uhm, I was just wondering how your night went. Are you still with AJ?"
Rain's maw was hoisted itself further in its grinning, though she still held back her blooming jocularity. "No, she went home," she replied, attempting to convey an oral coolness through her tone, "It was good, the dumbass managed to sober up by morning." A chuckle escaped her.
"That's good," remarked Fae, "I was beginning to wonder if she'd need the raw egg treatment."
"Oh we came close to it."
Fae chortled, and breathed expectantly, as if in preparation to speak, but dissipated into the faint static of the device. Dashie could sense that the bashful woman anticipated some additional divulgence in the happenings since her departure last night, and if anyone was her superlative wingman at this point, it was her. The silence warranted the brunette's prodding. "Okay, what do you want?" she teased.
