Chapter Eight

I couldn't believe it! How could most of these people have powers and I don't? It's not fair!

After we got back to the cabin, we were to go hiking. We had to pick teams. Whoever got to the end first win! "So, two groups of three?" I asked, four of the kids had left after the first day because they were homesick, so there were just seven of us now.

"Five." Mr. Brady corrected. " We have new campers!" From behind him stepped four girls, they didn't seem to know each other.

"Hi." One said, "I'm Olivia." She had blonde hair and a necklace with a pineapple on it.

"HI! I'M SYLVIA!" The other said. She had reddish blonde hair in a ponytail and she had a Sun-shapped mood ring.

"I'm. Clary. Clary Lori. L O R I. The 'i' is silent."

"And I'm Nolan. Said a girl with her hair up in a messy bun and a flower crown headband.

We said hello to the girls and then picked teams. I was a team captain. Great.

"Viola, you pick first." Mrs. Lee said.

"Gemini." I said. She stood up and stood next to me.

"Page, your turn." Said Mr. Brady.

"ISABELLA!" She said. But she didn't have to. Her best friend was already at her side.

"Alex."

"Sylvia"

My turn again. "Nolan"

Page's turn. (Pages turn. Wow. Bad pun counter : 1 )

"Clary"

"Olivia."

She shyly walked over to us and we introduced ourselves.

"Ajax, you're on Page's team." Mr. Brady said.

"With all girls?" He asked.

"Either way you're with all girls besides yourself." He said.

"True."

"Ready, set, GO!" Mrs. Lee yelled. Both teams went running in different directions.

We came upon a big clearing and I tripped. No one seemed to notice. They kept running forward and into the trees. "Uh, hello?" No answer.

I sat there and brushed myself off. Everything lost color. How hard did I knock my hea- then it hit me. Crap!

I got up and tried to run away, but the trees closed in front if me. What?

"Well well well. If it isn't clumsy little music note."

"Leave me alone."

"Then we'd miss out on the fun, now wouldn't we?"

" I WAS having fun until you showed up."

"We're you now? Oops."

I hate you.

"Ditto."

"What!? How did-"

"I can read thoughts. Don't you know?"

"I do NOW!"

"What do you want?"

"I just wanted to leave a little... message."

"Go on..."

"The end is near, kid. Enjoy this week."

He disappeared without even saying what he usually does before he leaves.

The color restored and the trees moved out of the way. I stopped only a moment to ponder what just happened, but I shook it off.

I caught up to my team. "There you are! We were calling your name but you weren't answering!" Said Gemini.

"You were?" I asked "Bill wouldn't shut u-" Gemini cut me off. "BILL!?!?"

"No big deal." I said.

"Yes big deal!" Alex said. "What'd he say?"

"Just told me that the end was near. He was probably just trying to scare me."

"What's going on here?" Olivia asked, a confused look on her face.

"Oh YEAH!" You guys don't know!" Gemini started. "See, this demon dorito thing dropped this book when I threw a rock at him and this page changes when-" she stopped and stared at the book.

"Dude, what is it?" Alex asked. I opened my mouth but I would've just been repeating the question. She took the words out of my mouth. I didn't say anything.

"She held the book out and we saw no more missing spaces. It was complete!
The outlines of the wheel were glowing blue.

I ran my eyes around the circle.

Sun
Wing
Butterfly
Clover
Pirate hook
Music notes
Pineapple
Lips with two dots
Circle with a triangle crossed out
And a crescent moon and a star.

"That's stock's Sylvia's ring." I said , pointing to the sun.

"That's my shirt." Gemini said, staring at the wing.

"Page's butterfly shirt." Said Alex.

"Isabella's anklet." Olivia said.

"Who's that?" I asked, pointing to the pirate hook. "Clary was wearing a bracelet with that on it." Gemini said.

"My- wrist." I stated.

"My necklace." Olivia said

"My lips have freckles above and below them." Nolan said. She pointed to the right corner of her mouth.

"Ajax's hand." Gemini said.

"And my necklace." Alex finished. We all looked at each other.

Alex, Gemini and I took off running. It wasn't long before Olivia and Nolan followed.

We came back to the camp panting. "WINNERS! VIOLA, GEMINI, ALEX, OLIVIA AND NOLAN!" Mrs. Lee and Mr. Brady both said together. We just run into the girls' cabin.

Eventually the other team showed up. We invited them all into the cabin.

We showed them the book. Sylvia and Clary had the same confused look as Olivia and Nolan first did.

After a long five minutes of explaining, they understood.
            
A loud bang came out of no where and the colors faded again. There was a loud laughing that we all knew. That is, Gemini, Alex, Ajax and I.

We shot our heads toward the door. So did Page and Isabella. They knew who it was, even though they've never heard him laugh.

"Finally! I have you all in the same place!"

"What do you want NOW?" I yelled.

  "I told you the end was coming. You have what two... three..." He counted on his dorito fingers. "About four days. Enjoy it while it lasts." (He's talking about my next chapter, chapter ten!)

  " 'Till then-"

Here it comes.
