The next morning, Vera was the only one up early. Well, her and the little first and second years who weren't allowed to go to the common room parties yet. She grabbed her book and dressed herself in her uniform and sat in the common room as the younger years ran circles around the common room, giggling and gossiping.

Vera smiled at them slightly, remembering her and Pansy at that age. She sighed as she flipped through the book, waiting for it to be time for breakfast.

"Wow, I really like that book." A girl came up to Vera. She was a first year, meaning she was twelve but she was so small, she looked ten.

Vera smiled at her, raising an eyebrow. "You do? What's your favorite part?" She asked, amusement etched onto her face.

The girl paused. "Well, I've seen my older sister reading it. She works at the Ministry. But I think she really likes it!"  She said, taking a seat beside Vera. "I just wanted to talk to you."

Vera laughed, closing the book and placing it beside her. "Oh yeah?"

"Mhm. And you are already so much nicer than that mean prefect who yelled at me and my twin yesterday." She continued, nodding along.

"Blond?" Vera asked in regard to the prefect, and shook her head in irritation when the little girl nodded. "And you have a twin?"

"Yeah, well we like to call each other twins." She revealed, grinning ear to ear.

Vera laughed, leaning back into the sofa. "Okay, well you have got to introduce me." After realizing she didn't know the little girls name, she asked, "By the way, my name is Vera, and what's yours?"

"Oh gosh, I know you already Vera!" The girl said hurriedly. "My name is Amelia but I just go by Lia."

"Well, it's very nice to meet you Lia." Vera smiled at Lia. Suddenly, the little girl shot up when she spotted a figure moving and began running towards her.

Lia dragged this new little girl back, who looked just as tiny and young as her friend. "Vera, look who it is!"

"Hi," said the girl shyly.

"Hello." Vera greeted, "And what's your name?"

"I'm Mia." She said, looking at her feet.

"Oh, Mia and Lia. How darling!" Vera said, looking at the little girls, arms looped together. "Wait... is she your—"

"Yes!" Lia interrupted gleefully. "Mia is my twin!"

Vera took another look at them beside each other and burst out laughing. Lia had short blond hair and big green eyes whereas Mia's hair consisted of a bunch of little black braids and both her smooth skin and almond eyes were the color of coffee. They were both beautiful little girls but they did not resemble each other at all.

"Hey, don't laugh." Lia chastised.

"We were twins in another life." They said so entirely in unison that Vera knew it had to be rehearsed.
