What Is Life?

Third Person

Heaven stared out the window of the fancy Italian café, watching the rain pour down as she reflected on her interaction with Alessandro on Monday. She was still reeling from the revelation that he was married with children. She was unsure how to navigate her feelings.

As she wrote in her diary, tears streamed down her face. She felt lost and alone, with only Brian to rely on. Her mother had abandoned her, her father was distant, and her love life was in shambles. The pain of her twin sister's death still lingered. Heaven fought to keep her suicidal thoughts at bay, wondering if life was worth living.

As the rain intensified, Heaven decided to risk riding her bicycle home despite her dead phone battery. She packed her belongings and set off into the torrential rain.

Alessandro, lost in thought, drove through the storm, his mind consumed by the turmoil in his life. His marriage to Cassie was loveless, and he was hesitant to divorce her due to their children. As he rounded a bend, his car skidded to a halt after he hit someone, and he leaped out into the rain, rushing to the girl lying on the ground only to discover it was Heaven.

"Fuck Heaven!" Alessandro cried, his voice shaking with remorse. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you, I was driving too fast... I hit you with my car, fuck babe!"

Heaven's eyes fluttered open, and she gazed up at him with a mixture of confusion, pain, and anger.

"Hurting me emotionally wasn't enough? You asshole," she snarled.

Alessandro's tried to keep his emotions at bay but gis eyes betrayed him. "I was distracted, Heaven. I wasn't paying attention, and I hit you. I didn't mean to hurt you at all emotionally or physically"

"But you did anyways! Do you mind leaving so I can die in peace."

Alessandro shook his head, his face wet with rain. "No, I'm taking you to the fucking hospital, you can be pissed at me later."

As the rain poured down, Alessandro carefully picked her up and helped Heaven into his car and drove her to a clinic owned by James, close to his penthouse. Dr. Edward James tended to her wounds, and Alessandro waited anxiously.

"Well, well, well. Look what we have here," Dr. James said, grinning at Heaven. "Alessandro's latest victim."

Heaven smiled weakly, and Alessandro shot James a warning look.

"Hey, don't mind him, Heaven," Dr. James said, winking at her. "He's just feeling guilty for almost killing you."

Alessandro rolled his eyes. "Edward, focus."

Dr. James chuckled. "Right, right. So, Heaven, how's your pain level? On a scale of one to ten, with ten being 'I want to kill Alessandro'?"

Heaven giggled, despite her pain. "A solid 10"

Dr. James nodded. "Okay, let's get you fixed up. And don't worry, I'll make sure Alessandro pays for his mistakes...in more ways than one."

Alessandro groaned, and Heaven laughed, feeling a bit more at ease with Edward.

As Dr. James finished treating Heaven's wounds, Alessandro coaxed her to eat, feeding her soup and crackers as she gazed at him warily.

"Come on, babe you have to eat something to help with the pain killers"

"Fine," she said, her eyes searching his face. As much as she wanted to hate him for everything she still had feelings for him.

Alessandro's voice was gentle. "Babe, I know you may not believe it, but I care about you a lot."

Dr. James snorted. "Aww, how sweet. And I'm sure Cassie would love to hear that."

Alessandro glared at him, but Heaven rolled her. At Alessandro words not sure if she should believe them.

As the storm intensified, Alessandro knew she couldn't take her all the way to her house.

"Heaven, I'm going to take you to my penthouse. It's close to the clinic, and due to the weather, there are a few trees on the road. I can't take you to your house tonight."

Heaven folded her arms and stared at him, trying to figure out if he had an ulterior motive . "What about your wife?."

Alessandro smiled nervously. "Umm.... We're separated."

"Is not so?"

Heaven asked, not believing him.

"Hey, I know it seems like he's lying, but he's not. You just make him so nervous. "
E

dward winked.

Heaven looked at Edward, wondering if he's just covering for his friend and turned to Alessandro, noticing his flushed cheeks.

"Okay"

As the night wore on, Alessandro's thoughts turned to his children and the possibility that they might not be his biological children. Finding about Cassie's cheating a couple months ago did hurt a lot, despite their marriage being business based he never once stepped out of her.

For now, his focus was on Heaven, he was still every conflict about wanting to be with her. Maybe once he should do something that he wanted, not her his family for for himself. And in this moment Alessandro decided that he would do everything in his power to make her whole again, to earn back her trust, and to prove that he was capable of love and redemption.
