You stand upon the deck of the ship, gazing out into the ocean. Ahead of you, a man stands on the front.

"What do you see?" you ask, barely heard over the raging winds.

"There's another ship up ahead! It's big, ma'am! Looks like a western ship!"

You feel a smirk playing at your lips. These westerners never learn, do they? Always trying to take on the pirates to prove their worth. Time to show them what's what.

You can see a large ship in the distance; it looks familiar. It has large billowing white sails, with a red cross-like insignia squarely in the middle of it.

Looks like the Portuguese Empire is back for more.

You walk to the front of your junk, and hold a hand out in a defensive position, waiting for them to notice you. You see the Galleon turn in your direction, then a cannonball fires towards your direction. Some of your crew start to panic, but you keep your right hand suspended, motioning with you left to steer right; to dodge it.

They immediately comply. You can feel the boat rocking underneath you, threatening to throw you off into the waves, but you fight back, steadying yourself with practiced ease. Your right hand shifts, pointing towards the ship.

There is another loud bang that leaves your ears ringing. Your ship has fired a cannonball in retaliation. The Portuguese ship veers right, almost capsizing. Your cannonball also misses its mark, but narrowly.

Your junk starts to move again, but towards the ship. You aren't scared, you know how they will react, how they will scream and shout and cry and flee for their lives.

As your junk approaches theirs, you start to make out facial features. There is one distinct expression you can see on everyone, even who you assume to be the captain.

Terror.

Oh, how you love to see their faces drop in fear when they realise who they are dealing with. It's almost funny, the way they start scrambling for the next cannonball to aim at your junk.

"Fire!" The command leaves your throat without you even thinking about it. Your crew immediately loads the next one, firing. This time, it hits.

The Galleon now has a hole in its side, and a crew of panicked westerners. You contemplate ending them right now, just ramming straight against them to capsize them. But you think better of it. That would make you seem like a ruthless pirate, one who doesn't have mercy.

You order the junk to get closer, so you can board the other ship. As you step foot in, the existing crew presses themselves against the walls, not wanting to be singled out and killed. But that's not what you do, no.

You take their loot, and leave the crew as a warning.

Gold, cotton, and sugar galore! A smile curves on your lips. "Take it all, and load it up!" You are pleased with this haul, and you are sure your husband will be too. Your crew move with a determination, moving every crate they can find.

Once they are done, you make towards the exit. Before you step off, you turn around, and smirk at them.

"Tell your king and queen that you guys need to up your defences. It was almost too easy."

Back on your boat, your words replay in your mind. You wince, hearing your Chinese accent seep into your English. You do need to work on that.

No matter, there is plenty of time for that. For you are the famed Pirate Queen of the east, maybe the most successful pirate ever.

Zheng Yi Sao.

So this is a historical fiction, Zheng Yi Sao is real, she did really defeat the Portuguese (sorry guys). But most of the events here are made up by me. I tried to make it historically accurate but I can only take so much about Portuguese Navy Armadas )))
