Later that afternoon, Harry, Ron, and Ann went to the Great Hall for lunch and got started on the large quantities of homework sitting next to each copying and comparing class notes. On the other end of the Gryffindor table, Seamus was attempting to perform a spell.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum, turn this water into rum," Nothing happened. Seamus looked inside the cup and shook his head. Then he tried again repeating the spell.
"What's Seamus trying to do to that glass of water?," Harry asked.
"Turn it into rum," said Ron.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum, turn this water into rum," Seamus yelled and POOF! Suddenly there was a flash of light and smoke coming out of the cup. Seamus's face was covered in soot and his hair was sticking up. Everyone in the Great Hall started to laugh. At that moment, a large flock of owls came soaring through the rafters and into the Great Hall.
"Ah. Mail's here!," Ron said. The owls flew by dropping letters and packages to students throughout the hall. Harry grabbed the newspaper Ann had set aside.
"Hey," Ann said
"Sorry I just wanted to see the wizarding news," Harry explained sheepishly.
"Ok just say something next time," Ann said, going to her homework as everyone else was opening their packages and letters from their parents back home. Sitting across from Seamus on the other end of the Gryffindor, Neville opened a package from his grandmother from a barn owl, which revealed a glass ball with smoke inside about the size of a cricket ball.
"Hey, look!,Neville's got a Remembrall!," Dean Tommes said form Neville's side
"I've read about those," Hermione added.
"When the smoke turns red, it means you've forgotten something," As Hermione finished her thought, the smoke in the glass ball turned red.
"The only problem is, I can't remember what I've forgotten," Neville told them. "Hey guys," Harry said, getting Ron and Ann's attention.
"Somebody broke into Gringotts," told the two, now getting Hermione's attention. "What?," Ann asked, bewildered by what Harry said.
"Listen. Believed to be the work of dark witches or wizards unknown, Gringotts goblins, while acknowledging the breach, insist that nothing was taken.T he vault in question, number 713, had in fact been emptied earlier that same day. That's odd. That's the vault Hagrid and I went to," Harry explained.
"Let me see," Ann said grabbing her newspaper from Harry's hand, as Hermione peered over her shoulder to read the newspaper which said:
GRINGOTTS BREAK-IN LATEST
Investigations continue into the break-in at Gringotts on 31 July, widely believed to be the work of Dark wizards or witches unknown. Gringotts goblins today insisted that nothing had been taken. The vault that was searched had in fact been emptied the same day. "But we're not telling you what was in there, so keep your noses out if you know what's good for you," said a Gringotts spokes goblin this afternoon.
"Who would wanna break into Gringotts?," Hermoine asked,
"Yeah, I mean haven't you seen that place? It's got dragons guarding the vaults. Dragons!," Ann added
"I don't know," Harry said.
