Harry and Ann became more and more nervous as the Quidditch match drew nearer. It was easily noticeable that the rest of the team members weren't calm either. The thought of overtaking Slytherin in the house championship was wonderful, no one had done it before for seven years. Seven years! The looks on the Slytherin's faces would be priceless if Gryffindor or any of the other houses were to beat Slytherin, Ann thought. Potions lessons were turning into a sort of weekly torture for Harry and Ann, Snape was so horrible to them and constantly he would make Ann partner up with Malfoy instead of anyone else. Ann would always think Snape got a good laugh and pleasure by partnering her up with Malfoy. Could Snape possibly know they'd found out about theSorcerer's Stone? Harry thought. Harry didn't see how he could. Yet he sometimes had a bad feeling that Snape could possibly have the ability to read minds. And Ann completely agreed with Harry's theory.
When their friends wished the two good luck outside the locker rooms the next afternoon, Harry and Ann both knew that Ron and Hermione were wondering whether they would ever see him and Ann alive again, which obviously wasn't comforting at all. But Ann was completely sure of this when Ron hugged her so fiercely she started choking.
"Trying to kill me before the match?," she joked shoving him off
"Just don't die," Ron said
"I'll try my best," Ann said before going into the girls locker. In the girls locker room, Ann was completely zoned out when she put on her robes and picked up her Nimbus 2000, and didn't hear a word of Johnson's speech. Meanwhile, at the stands, Ron and Hermione had found a place next to Neville, who couldn't understand why they looked so worried or even why they had both brought their wands to the Quidditch match. Little did Harry and Ann know, Ron and Hermione had been secretly practicing the Leg-Locker Curse. They got this idea from Malfoy using it on Neville and were prepared to use it on Snape if he showed any sign of wanting to hurt Harry or Ann.
"Now remember," Hermione said to Ron as he slipped his wand up his sleeve, "It's Locomotor Mortis," she said
"Got it," Ron said. Meanwhile Harry, Ann, and the rest of the team made their way to the entrance of the field,
"The whole school's out there!," Fred said as he peered out of the door. Harry's stomach did some somersaults with nerves. Harry went over to the door to look for himself with Ann.
"Any sign of Snape," Harry asked Ann
"Yeah. He's right there in front of us," Ann said, pointing to Snape who wasn't looking too happy.
"Why does he look like he's gonna punch someone?," Ann asked.
"What do you mean?," Harry said as he looked out. Harry did notice the mean look Snape had and looked around to see why and found it.
"I think I know why," Harry said with a huge smile on his face.
"Look above him in the stands," Ann looked up and saw an unmistakable long silver beard.
"It's Dumbledore!," Ann said. Harry and Ann were both relieved. There was absolutely no way Snape would do any harm to Harry not with Dumbledore around. As the Gryffindor team marched on, Ron and Hermione noticed Snape's mean look as well.
"I've never seen Snape look so mean," Ron told Hermione. The Gryffindor and Hufflepuff teams took off and they were in the air, Ron felt a poke on the back of his head.
"Ow!," Ron said. It was Malfoy.
"Oh, sorry, Weasley, didn't see you there," Malfoy grinned broadly at Crabbe and Goyle as Malfoy continued talking.
"Wonder how long Potter's going to stay on his broom this time? Anyone wanna bet? What about you, Weasley?," But Ron just ignored him. The game hardly even started when Snape blew the whistle.
"10 points from Hufflepuff!!!," Snape yelled after a bludger hit by George came hurtling toward a Hufflepuff player. As the game went on, Hermione had her fingers crossed under her lap and her eyes were glued on Harry who were circling the field searching for the Snitch. A few minutes later back at the stands Malfoy couldn't keep his trap shut.
"You know how I think they choose people for the Gryffindor team?," Malfoy said as Snape penalized Hufflepuff again for no reason.
"It's people they feel sorry for. See, there's Potter, who's got no parents, then there's the Weasleys, who've got no money, and there's Black who's fatherless. You should be on the team, Longbottom, you've got no brains," Neville went completely red at this point but turned in his seat to face Malfoy.
"I'm worth twelve of you, Malfoy," Neville stammered. Then Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle laughed loudly, but Ron told Neville without taking his gaze off of Harry and Ann,
"You tell him, Neville,"
"Longbottom," Malfoy continued, "If brains were gold you'd be poorer than Weasley and that's saying something," Ron was at a breaking point and turned to Malfoy
"I'm warning you, Malfoy. One more word and I swear…,"Ron said but he was interrupted when Hermione said,
"Ron!! Harry....,"
"What?," Ron said with his anxiety kicking into high gear. Ann looked on as Harry went into a dramatic dive toward the ground like a bullet causing the crowd to gasp and cheer. Hermione stood up and crossed her fingers in her mouth tightly.
"You're in luck, Weasley," Malfoy kept going.
"Potter's obviously spotted some money on the ground!," It was enough to make Ron snap and he got up and wrestled Malfoy to the ground before Malfoy knew what was happening. Among the chaos unfolding with fists flying and yells from Ron and Malfoy, Hermione screamed and leaped onto her seat to get a better view,
"Come on, Harry!!!," she shouted as Harry sped straight toward Snape and Snape quickly mounted his broom and was up in the air just in time Harry shot past him, missing him by inches. Harry pulled out of the dive and his arm raised in triumph with the Snitch clutched in his hand. The stands erupted with cheers and applause. Ann, still in the air, cheered from the opposite end and flew down to meet up with Harry and the rest of the team.
"Ron!! Ron!!!," Hermione said, trying to find Ron, whose nose was bleeding and scrambling to pull him up.
"The game's over! Gryffindor won again!! We're in the lead!!!," Hermoine told him. Harry jumped off his broom as Ann landed right next to him and high fived him.
"You did it!!! We won!!!," she said as the Gryffindor team came pouring onto the field, Harry saw Snape who landed close by shell-shocked by what just happened. Harry and Ann looked up at the teachers' stands and saw Dumbledore giving them a standing ovation and grin.
