They arrived at Kings Cross and walked over to the wall. Ann saw Ron and the other Weasleys. She ran over Harry hurrying to keep up.
"Ron", She called out
"Ann", he said smiling
"Oh hello Ann dear", Ron's mom Molly Weasley said smiling over at Ann
"Hello Miss Weasley", Ann said smiling at her
"Whos that?", Ron asked nodding over at Harry
"Oh this is Harry", Ann said
"Harry, as in the Harry Potter?", Ron asked shocked
"Uh yes", Harry said awkwardly
"Can I see… it?", Ron asked
"See what?",
"The scar", Ron asked as a Ann elbowed him in the ribs
"Ron he's not some museum attraction", she said annoyed
"Ouch", Ron exclaimed
"Alright come along now children your next", Molly said
The three of them lined up Harry last.
"Alright Ann you first dear", Molly said as her uncle Mason smiled
"Ok", she said nervously. Ann ran through the wall. She smiled, stopping to look at the train. Ann waited as everyone else came through. Harry seemed amazed.
"So what do you think?", Ann asked noticing his expression of awe
"Its, incredible", he said breathlessly
They got on the train and found an empty compartment with a girl reading in it. She had bushy brown hair and rather large front teeth. She looked around and noticed the others.
"Can we sit here?", Ann asked
"Everywhere else is full", Ron explained
"Of course", the girl said brightly
"Hi I'm Ron, Ronald Weasley",
"I'm Hermoine, Hermoine Granger",
"I'm Ann, Anastasia Black, and that's Harry", Ann said, nodding towards Harry. Hermoine turned towards Ann, who was sitting next to her.
"Wait Harry as in Harry Potter?", she asked surprised
"Well you should try asking him and not me", Ann joked
"I am Harry Potter", Harry chuckled. They all burst out laughing. Once they had stopped, Hermione and Ann talked about the different books they'd read over the summer. While Ron tried spells on his rat Sacbbers with Harry watching mesmerized. The trolly witch came by and opened the door
"Anything off the trolly dears?", she asked smiling
"No thanks", said Ron holding up his sandwich
"We're set", Ann said holding up her brown lunch bag
"We'll take the lot", Harry said, pulling out a handful of gallons. Ann and Ron just stared in silence. Once the trolly witch had left Ann and Ron, along with Hermoine thanked Harry. And they started digging through their sweets. Harry and Hermine discovered chocolate frogs whilst Ann tried to convince Ron to trade his card with hers. The four of them were quick friends each having shared interests.
Time skip too after train ride
It was dark out when the train finally came to a screeching halt into an outdoor station blowing its whistle. Hagrid came walking on the platform and up to the train with his lantern in his hand. Ron, Harry, Ann and Hermoine could hear him yell for the first year students' attention.
"Right, then! First years! This way, please! Come on, now, don't be shy! Come on now, hurry up!," Hagrid bellowed. Some older students came up to the doors of the train and opened them for the students as they began pouring out one by one.
"Hello, Harry!," Hargid said to the famous boy.
"Hey, Hagrid!," Harry said.
"Woah!" said Ron and Eve, surprised to see how big the half giant was.
"Right then, This way to the boats! Come on, now, follow me," Hagrid shouted over the chatter of the excited first years. All of the students along with Ann, Harry, Hermoine, and Ron followed Hagrid to the boats. Hagrid had his own boat while all the other students boarded each boat for fours. The boats were big enough to fit four people and had lanterns lit to light the way to the school. Ron sat on the right side of the boat holding on to the lantern with Harry next to him. Hermione sat behind them looking over Harry's shoulder to see the school. Ann grabbed the lamp from Ron so her and Hermoine could see better. Ron faked pity and Ann shook her head in mock annoyance. The school was a castle that was built on a cliff. The castle got bigger and bigger as the boats took them closer and closer. The students stepped off the boats onto a harbor in the direction of a huge oak front door that magically opened up. The students went up a few flights of where they were met by a stern lookingProfessor who was waiting for them.
"Welcome to Hogwarts! I'm Professor McGonagall," she said with a warm smile, "Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are... Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin," Professor McGonagall continued.
"Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family," Professor McGonagall continued explaining to the students.
"Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup," Professor McGonagall finished.
"Trevor!!," a young looking boy yelled who spotted his toad sitting near McGonagall and interrupting her lecture. The boy jumped forward to pick it up and looked up at McGonagall who stared down at him. He then apologized and backed away among the rest of the first years.
"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily," said McGonagall before turning on her heel and walking away leaving the students alone in the hallway to wonder what the ceremony will be like. But the curiosity was interrupted by a voice over by the stairway railing, a boy with slicked back hair who gave an evil look.
"It's true then!," said the boy as Harry, Ron, Ann, and Hermoine turned their heads in the direction of the person talking,
"What they're saying on the train. Harry has come to Hogwarts," he said as the large crowd of students started whispering to each other.
"You must be Harry Potter, and I'm Malfoy... Malfoy Malfoy," he said, holding out his hand as Ron and Ann snickered at his name.
"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand me down robe? You must be a Weasley. And curly untamed hair and the look of no dad you must be a Black. You'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there," Malfoy said, extending his hand, but Harry looked down at his hand frowning
"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks," he said as Malfoy glared at him as though he was about to punch Harry, but the almost fight was interrupted when McGonagall came back and tapped Malfoy on the shoulder with a rolled up piece of paper. Malfoy gave a final glare to Ron, Ann, and Harry before rearting.
"We're ready for you now," said McGonagall, "Follow me." McGonagall led the students through two large doors into the Great Hall. As the doors slowly opened, everyone was amazed by what they saw. The students made their way through the giant doors into the Great Hall. The large room was lit by thousands of candles floating in midair over four long tables where the rest of the students were sitting with their black pointed hats and in front of them was another long table where the teachers were sitting. Empty golden plates and goblets lay on all the tables. Professor McGonagall guarded the first years down the center aisle toward the front of the Great Hall. Directly in front of the students was a wooden four-legged stool with a pretty large and old ragged pointed hat. Ann looked up at the ceiling as they were walking and noticed it showed the night sky wondering if they were really outside or if that was just some sort of spell for decoration.
"It's not real, the ceiling," Hermione said to the right of Ann as they walked down the center of the Great Hall,
"It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History," she finished. The students continued walking behind McGonagall until she walked up a couple steps ahead turned and said,
"Now, you wait along here please," McGonagall said, directing the students to wait behind the first step of the small stage.
"Now before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to share a few words," she finished. Dumbledore rose from his seat behind the main table, he had a long wispy beard and half moon shaped glasses that hung off the crook of his nose.
"I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students." Dumbledore continued with the announcement.
"Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch," said Dumbledore gesturing the old man in the back by the giant doors with a cat that had red eyes, "has asked me to remind you that the third floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." When Dumbledore finished his announcements, the room went completely silent. McGonagall walked back over. She opened up a large scroll.
"When I call your name, you will come forward, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses, " McGonagall told them. The first years got tense and nervous in the anticipation of who's name was gonna be called first. Name after name was called different kids going into different houses, with the houses cheering when a student got picked for their house. Finally Ann was called after Susan Bones was sent to Hufflepuff. Ann walked up to the stool and the hat was placed upon her head.
Hmmm….ahh Black!, the hat said. Ann quietly prayed for any house but Slyerthin.
Not Slytherin? Are yo- Ahh.. I see you want to prove them wrong. Well then it better be……
"Gryffindor," the hat shouted. Ann took off the hat and went to sit down at the red and gold table waiting for her friends. It took ages but finally Hermione was called up. She walked up to the stoll nervously but finally the hat called out
"Gryffindor," the table cheered as Hermoine ran over and joined Ann. They chatted excitedly as they waited for Harry and Ron to get called.
"Ronald Weasley!!," said McGonagall. Ron gulped and turned his head toward Ann, she gave him a thumbs up. Slowly, Ron worked his way up the steps and walked up to the stool sitting down terrified.
"Ah!," the sorting hat exclaimed, making Ron and McGonagall jump, "Another Weasley. I know just where to put you..." Ron immediately became tense hoping he got sorted into any house except Slytherin. Finally, the sorting hat yelled,
"Gryffindor!," Ron sighed with relief and smiled as he got up to sit with his two friends as the students of the Gryffindor table applauded. People kept getting called and others kept talking. It wasn't until McGonagall said the next name. "Harry Potter." That the whole room went completely silent. Harry walked up to the stool slowly and looked at Ann. Harry sat down on the stool slowly as McGonagall placed the hat on his head. The whole room waited with Bated breath. Where would the chosen one end up? Finally the sorting hat shouted out
"GRYFFINDOR!!!!!,"There was an immense eruption of cheers and applause from the Gryffindor table as all the Gryffindor students stood up. Harry ran over and joined his friends beaming brightly. Moments later, after all the students have been sorted into their appropriate houses, McGonagall rang her glass goblet to get the students' attention.
"Your attention, please," she said. Dumbledore stood up and said,
"Let the feast... begin." And at that, the food magically appeared. All of the students were wowed by this.
"Wow," said Harry with raised eyebrows. Finally, Harry started digging in right away along with Ron who was stuffing his face. There were plates and bowls of roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops and lamb chops, sausages, bacon and steak, boiled potatoes, fries, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, and ketchup. As everyone was eating, Ann could overhear Seamus Finnigan, the tiny boy who got sorted into Gryffindor, talking with his mates.
"I'm half and half. My dad's a Muggle. Mam's a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out," Neville laughed. Meanwhile, Harry, sitting next to Percy, leaned over and asked
"Say, Percy, who that teacher talking to Professor Quirrell?,"
"Oh, that's Professor Snape," Percy replied, "Head of Slytherin House. I'm surprised you know Professor Quirrell,"
"I met him at the Leaky Cauldron," Harry said
"What's he teaching?" Ann asked the older boy joining the conversation.
"Potions. But everyone knows it's the Dark Arts he fancies. He's been after Quirrell's job for years," Percy said. Ron, who was sitting across from Harry and Ann, just finished one of his chicken wings and reached into the bowl for another chicken leg when suddenly a ghostly head popped up out of the bowl. Ron jumped causing him to drop his chicken leg and gave a small yell.
"Hello!," said the ghostly figure, "How are you? Welcome to Gryffindor," Then all of a sudden, dozens more ghosts came pouring from the walls. The Hufflepuff's ghost came swimming from the floor and soared up toward the ceiling.
"Woo-hoo-hoo!!," yelled Hufflepuff's ghost. Another ghost came floating from the wall with a long curly wig and swung around a sword.
"Look," said a girl at the Slytherin table, "It's the Bloody Baron!," Then, more ghosts continued to hover and float around the Great Hall as the students continued to munch down the food presented to them.
"Hello, Sir Nicholas. Have a nice summer?," Percy asked the ghost at their table. "Dismal," Sir Nicholas said as he floated up out of the bowl, "Once again, my request to join the headless hunt has been denied," he explained.
"Hey, I know you!," Ann said before ron cut in
"You're Nearly Headless Nick!,"He said as Ann kicked his leg under the table. "Nearly headless?," Harry asked.
"I prefer Sir Nicholas if you don't mind," said Nearly Headless Nick.
"Nearly headless? How can you be nearly headless?," Hermoine asked him
"Like this," Nearly Headless Nick said, grabbing his head and pulling it to the side, showing his head hanging by a thread.
"Ahh!" Ron and Ann yelled. Hermione cringed at the sight. Then Nearly Headless Nick put his head back on and floated away. Later that night, after everyone had their stomachs filled with food and feeling a bit groggy, the older students who have been to Hogwarts longer led the first years out of the Great Hall to the stairways. Percy led the first year Gryffindor students up the marble staircase while the others led the other first year students to different parts of the castle to their houses.
"Gryffindors, follow me please," Percy said, directing the first years, "Keep up. Thank you," he said as another boy directed another group of first years to their house. "Ravenclaw, follow me. This way,"
"This is the most direct path to the dormitories," Percy said as they made their way up the marble staircase. "Oh, and keep an eye on the staircases... they like to change," Percy was right about that. There were a vast amount of staircases: wide, sweeping ones; narrow, rickety ones; some that led somewhere different on certain days of the week; some with a vanishing step halfway up so you had to jump in order to get across.
"Keep up please and follow me," Percy said as the first years followed behind him. "Quickly now, come on. Come on,"
"Seamus, that picture's moving!," said Neville who was behind Ann. The people in the portraits kept going from frame to frame to visit each other and Ann could've sworn the coats of armor in the hallways were moving too.
"Look at that one, Harry!," Ron said, pointing to the woman in the portrait with a white dress as it was curtsied to the students.
"Oh, look! Look!" said a girl behind Neville, "Who's that girl?," Then the students passed another portrait with an older man that greeted the students as they walked by.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," the man in the portrait said. There were also a vast amount of doors: some that wouldn't open unless you politely asked them to open, tickling the person trying to open the door, and doors that weren't really doors, but contain solid walls. It was hard to remember where anything was since all seemed to move around quite a bit. Percy led the students through multiple doorways hidden behind sliding panels and hanging tapestries and climbed more staircases. Then the students finally made it to a corridor and at the end was a giant portrait with a fat lady in a pink silk dress. It stood still for a moment before asking
"Password?,"
"Caput Malfoynis," Percy answered. The woman nodded and signaled to proceed as the painting opened up to reveal an opening in the wall.
"Follow me, everyone," Percy said impatiently. "Keep up, quickly, come on," One by one, the students entered a pretty large room. The room was a round, cozy room filled with squashy armchairs and nice decadent rectangular rug and a large stone fireplace.
"Gather 'round here," Percy said, directing the students to the center of the room.
"Welcome to the Gryffindor Common Room. Boys' dormitories, upstairs and down to your left. Girls, the same on your right. You'll find that your belongings have already been brought up," he said, turning to leave the dormitory, as everyone scattered off in different directions, some stayed downstairs while others went upstairs to their rooms. Ann followed Hermoine upstairs. As Hermoine opened the door, Ann peered over her shoulder to see what the dormitories looked like. It was obvious they were in one of the towers. There five four-poster beds hung with deep red, velvet curtains. Their trunks had already been brought up.
"Wow," Ann said, walking past Hermoine and claiming the top bunk. Hermoine took the one below. Two other girls took the other beds. Lavender Brown and Parviti Patil. They all eventually went to bed and slowly drifted off to sleep excited for the first day tomorrow.
