Her drenched figure was engulfed in my arms, her untied wet hair cascading down to her waist, making her look even more beautiful.
The blouse clung to her chest, and the peach-colored saree, soaked through, adhered to her form like a second skin, accentuating her curves-her chest, slender waist, and the pleats gracefully falling to the floor.
She stood in my arms, her heels brushing against the tips of my shoes.
I leaned forward, wrapping my hand tighter around her waist, pulling her closer. The rain continued to pour down heavily, and a soft gasp escaped her lips.
"Shaurya, let's go inside. We'll get sick like this," she whispered, her voice trembling from our closeness.
"What were you planning for my birthday, Avni?" I asked, cutting straight to the point, curling a strand of her hair around my finger.
Her eyes widened in shock. "What? How did you find out?" she asked.
"Does it matter?" I replied, my voice steady.
"Maybe... I don't know," she said, just as I leaned down and placed a soft peck on her lips.
"When I went into the bedroom to check the windows, I got a call from Mahira," I explained. She closed her eyes, sighing deeply, as I continued, "I think that says enough."
She shook her head slowly, denying any further explanation. "Are you really sure about your decision, Avni?" I asked, my voice soft but firm.
"I am very sure, Shaurya," she said, her voice tinged with sadness. "But I didn't think things would happen like this. I wanted everything to be perfect-just like you always make things perfect for me. But I guess today, I can't tell you the way I planned."
I sighed and gently touched her cheek. "If you can't do this, then let me." Before she could respond, I continued, "I'm sorry for stealing the moment from you. After all the time you've made me wait for this, it would be unfair to say that our journey began with love at first sight. No, it began with a fight." I paused, our foreheads touching, my voice softening as I added, "But you are my first love. Is that too cliché?"
She smiled softly, looking up at me. "I won't finish the sentence," I said, my eyes locked with hers. "You know what I'm talking about. So, ask me, Avni."
Her voice was laced with emotion as she said, "I'm sorry. I should've told you sooner. I wanted it to be a surprise, just like the surprises you always plan for me. Everything with you has always been perfect, and I want it to stay perfect, always. I've thought about this for a long time, and I know you won't disappoint me. Will you marry me, Shaurya?"
Tears slipped down her cheeks, and I gently wiped them away. How could I ever say no? I had always dreamed of a future with her. Now, hearing her ask me, I felt overwhelmed with happiness.
"Yes, I will," I whispered, and a chuckle escaped her lips. I tightened my hold on her and lifted her from the ground, her feet dangling as I spun her in the air.
"Today's my birthday, so can I make a wish?" I asked, pressing my nose to hers. She nodded, a playful smile on her face.
"My wish is for you to kiss me, here, under the rain," I said. A shy smile tugged at her lips, but she leaned in closer and whispered,
"You don't need to wish for that," before closing the distance between us, her lips meeting mine in a kiss. Without hesitation, I kissed her back. Our lips moved in sync as my right arm encircled her waist, my other hand tangling in her wet hair, while her fingers wove into my own.
