The alarm buzzed sharply at 6:00 AM, pulling me from a deep sleep. I groaned, reaching out to silence it before stretching and sitting up.
Today was a special day: Nakul and Kaashi's one-year anniversary. The memories of last year's wedding celebrations came flooding back, filling me with a sense of nostalgia.
I quickly got ready, the morning routine passing in a blur of activity.
By 8:00 AM, I was out of the house, dressed in my usual formal attire, and heading to the university.
The drive was calming, the morning sun casting a warm glow over the city. I made a mental note to wish Nakul and Kaashi as soon as I got to the staff room.
Walking into the staff room, I immediately spotted Avni. She was seated at her desk, engrossed in a video call on her laptop.
Her face lit up with a bright smile as she spoke, and I knew she was talking to Nakul and Kaashi. I made my way over, leaning in to see the screen.
"Good morning, everyone!" I said, joining the call. "Happy anniversary, Nakul and Kaashi!"
"Thanks, Shaurya! And good morning to you too!" Nakul's voice came through, cheerful as ever. "We were just talking about how quickly this year has gone by."
Kaashi chimed in, "Yes, and how much has changed! We're so happy you both are joining us tonight."
"We wouldn't miss it for the world," Avni replied, her eyes meeting mine briefly, a silent understanding passing between us.
We talked for a few more minutes, and after the call ended, the day progressed with the usual bustle of university life. Each lectures filled my schedule. And at this moment I realised that I really miss my holidays.
Between lectures, I found moments to glance at Avni, catching her in fleeting moments of concentration or laughter with colleagues. Her presence was a constant source of comfort and inspiration.
During lunch, we managed to steal a few moments together, discussing our plans for the evening. "It's going to be a wonderful celebration," Avni said, her excitement palpable.
"I can't wait," I replied, squeezing her hand over the table. We've started showing affection to each other in public, as all of our colleagues now know about us.
"You know, I got a message from Mahira, she has bought a dress for me, as a gift for our engagement, and she wants me to wear it tonight." Avni said, and I nodded my head with a smile.
As the day wound down, we packed up our things and headed out to our cars. The drive to Nakul and Kaashi's house was filled with anticipation.
The evening air was crisp, and the city lights twinkled as we made our way through the familiar streets.
Arriving at their house, we were greeted with warm hugs and smiles from our parents and other family members. The house was beautifully decorated, a testament to Kaashi's impeccable taste.
"Look who finally decided to show up!" my mother teased as we walked in.
After our engagement my parents have decided to stay for more days, and other relatives have gone back to Punjab.
"Sorry, got caught up with work," I replied, chuckling. And then we proceeded to meet the couple of the day.
We four, i.e., Nakul, Kaashi, Avni and me, were talking about their wedding, and suddenly the conversation turned to the reception party from a year ago.
"Do you remember how Shaurya asked Avni to be his fake girlfriend?" Kaashi laughed, nudging Avni playfully.
Avni smiled, her eyes sparkling with the memory. "Yes, and how I complaint about him to his parents." I laughed remembering the disappointed looks my parents have me that day.
"Avni, you don't know what happened after the party, Shaurya got an earful from his father. It was a beautiful sight to see." Nakul laughed. "And the funny thing is that you two were at each other's throats back then."
"It was all part of the plan," I said, winking at Avni. "And look where we are now."
As the evening progressed, I felt an overwhelming desire to steal a moment alone with Avni.
But alas! I couldn't.
Mahira has taken Avni with her, to show the dress she has bought. To divert my mind I started using my phone.
My eyes widened looking at Avni, climbing down the stairs. Looking ravishing in a peach colour, full sleeve, off-shoulder dress. The dress reached till her mid-thigh.
Sliding my phone in my pocket I made my way towards her, holding her hand into mine.
I pulled her aside and leaned towards her and whispered, "Let's sneak out for a bit."
Her eyes, widened but soon she giggled, "No, we can't do that."
I tightened my hold on her hand, "Nothing will happen, I'm with you."
She shook her head, we made our way towards the door, but just as we were about to slip out, Kaashi's voice rang out, "Where do you two think you're going?"
Everyone turned to look at us, and I raised my hands in mock surrender. "Caught red-handed," I said, grinning. While Avni gave me side-eye.
"Trying to sneak away, Shaurya?" my father asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It was all his idea," Avni said, her cheeks turning red.
The room erupted in laughter, and Avni stomped her feet and walked away.
Soon, Nakul and Kaashi cut their anniversary cake, their faces glowing with happiness. Everyone cheered and clapped, capturing the moment with our phones and cameras.
Then, Mahira suggested a dance, and before I knew it, Avni and I were being pulled onto the stage by our enthusiastic family members. Nakul and Kashi joined us, their hands intertwined.
"Looks like we're up," I whispered to Avni, who smiled nervously.
"I hope I don't trip over my own feet," she whispered back.
I chuckled, "Just follow my lead."
The music started, a soft, romantic tune that set the perfect mood. I pulled Avni close, our bodies swaying to the rhythm.
Kaashi and Nakul danced beside us, their chemistry palpable. They looked so happy, so in sync, and it warmed my heart to see them like this.
The moonlight cast a soft glow over everything, creating an intimate atmosphere. I pulled Avni close, our foreheads touching.
"I'm sorry about earlier," I said softly. "I just wanted a moment alone with you."
She smiled, her fingers tracing patterns on my chest. "It's fine. But it was fun."
I smiled and the thought of sneaking away with Avni again crossed my mind. The music stopped and the applause and hooting started of our family members.
And I turned to find Nakul taking away the attention of everyone by kissing Kaashi. And I took this chance to snuck out with Avni, as no one would notice us.
I made a mental note to thank Nakul later.
I bought Avni to the guest room, where I used to stay. The lights were off, but due to the fairy lights hung outside, everything was quite visible.
I pinned Avni against the door, after entering into the room. Her eyes shone with many emotions.
I tucked her hair behind her ear, we stood there in silence for a moment.
Unable to resist any longer, I kissed her. It was slow and deep, filled with all the love and passion I felt for her. She responded with equal fervor, her hands tangling in my hair.
My hands roamed on her body, and rested on her back, I slowly slid down the chain, revealing her bare breast from her front.
