Moonlit Awakening

Chapter 9

Alice

Alice's eyes flutter open. She looks around the room in confusion, eventually noticing Liam fast asleep in a chair. "L...Liam?" she whispers, "Liam!"

He jolts forward, waking up. "Alice?" he mumbles. He looks up and sees that she's awake. "Alice, you're awake!"

"Y...yes, where are we?"

"We're at my...erm...well it used to be my pack's hospital."

She struggles to sit up. "W...what? Liam your f...father he..."

"He's the one who took me to bring you here."

"H...huh?"

"He knows it's his fault that the Lycans went after you, also mom would kill him if he sent you home untreated."

Her eyes widen. "L...Liam! I...I need to check something!"

"What is it?"

"I...I need to go to the bathroom!" She slowly stands up.

"Alice, let me help you!" He carefully helps her to the bathroom, where she examines her shoulder. "Why are you looking at your shoulder?"

"I...it's where a...lycan bit me."

"What?" He looks worried. "When did this happen?"

"I...I don't know. How long was I there?"

"A few days."

"I...I know it happened on my first day there, but...I don't know how long it's been since then."

"I need to talk to my father and mother about this. Are you sure that it was a Lycan that bit you?"

She looks uncertain. "W...well..."

"You aren't sure."

"I just thought...since I was in Lycan territory, it would be a Lycan."

He sighs. "Not necessarily, there are some werewolves that live there too."

"S...so it could've been a werewolf?"

"Yeah, it might've been."

"How do we know?"

"We'll have to wait for your first shift. I'll know by your scent if you've become a Lycan or a werewolf."

"W...what are the differences between them?"

"Between a werewolf and a Lycan?" She nods. "Lycans are simply stronger and faster than werewolves are."

"O...oh, I suppose you'd prefer if I'm a werewolf."

"Yeah, my family has a complicated past with Lycans."

"I know."

He looks surprised. "You...know?"

She nods. "The Lycan King told me that your ancestors on your dad's side were hunters and that they tried to hunt Lycans to extinction. They killed all of his family, except for him."

He grasps onto the chair he's sitting in. "Yes, I'm ashamed of their actions, they never should have picked a fight with the Lycans!"

"Your father, does he..."

"He and I agree that they never should've gone after the Lycans. It's the one thing that we agree on."

"M...maybe your pack...I mean...maybe your ex-pack and the Lycan King can sign a truce?"

"I'll speak with my father about that. You focus on resting and recovering."

"When...when is the next full moon?"
