Morana knows she's different from other people in more ways than one. Firstly, she's sixty-seven years old but stopped ageing in her twenties. Weird things have also happened around her right after she's wished for it. But most importantly, no matte...
"This is a private party and you are not invited," the man in front of Rheseis said. His appearance was rather generic. Brown hair and eyes, a well-built body over which he had black pants and a white shirt. The house behind him also looked rather generic. It could have belonged to a rich family of three. But neither was simply that. For the man wasn't simply a man. He was a shifter, though the animal within him had been weakened by witches' magic, making it impossible for Rheseis to tell what type of shifter he was.
"But I'm going to go in," Rheseis smiled sweetly at him.
"You are not invited and your clothes..." He looked over the flowy dress in which was so light purple it almost looked white that only reached Rheseis' knees. "Your clothes are not appropriate."
"I don't think you understood me," Rheseis giggled and threw back her black hair. "I'm going to go in."
She placed her hands on the man's shoulders before jumping off the ground. She simply did a kind of vault, with her hands on his shoulders, and landed smoothly on the other side of him.
Two other shifters guarded the walk up to the house. One of these moved towards Rheseis, his arms outstretched as if planning on grabbing hold of her. She took hold of one of his hands and raised it. Then she started twirling as if they danced, while also pushing the arm she held backwards, making the man shuffle his feet. He moved so that he stood sideways. Rheseis then let go of his hand and continued to spin, but this time taking steps forward with each rotation.
The third man fisted his hand and swung it towards her face. She timed it perfectly, so she was with her side to the door as the arm came towards her. She took a long step. The leg she had stepped out with was straight, while the other was bent, keeping her close to the ground and under the arm. She shifted her upper body so the angles of the legs swapped places, before standing up on her bent leg while the one that was straight swung around so when it landed, she faced the door again, kicking the man's face in the process.
Without looking back, she skipped the rest of the way to the front door. She didn't even pause as she walked in. She knew where she needed to go and simply danced her way to the living room.
When she entered, the entire room went silent which was a big contrast to what it had been. The room was filled with around twenty witches. They all held a glass of wine as they sat spread around on the antic chairs. They had been talking and laughing while female shifters in white dresses refilled their glasses and offered hors d'oeuvre.
"Who are you?" a witch asked and rose from her seat.
"I'm Rheseis and I have dealings with the High Priestess," Rheseis answered, unbothered by the glares she received from the witches in the room. Though her heart broke at the sight of the downcast eyes of the female shifters. She didn't let that show, however, but just smiled at the woman sitting on a chaise longue in the center of the gathering.
"And what would you want with me?" the woman asked. She twirled her glass, her eyes set on it instead of Rheseis.
"I want the Key of the Goddess."
There was a collective gasp, and the woman's eyes became narrow. Her head slowly turned to Rheseis, who held onto a sweet smile.
"Who do you think you are to ask for such a thing?" the woman demanded.
"Someone that you owe. Or is the deal your ancestor made forgotten?" Rheseis tilted her head slightly.
"You are the faerie?" the High Priestess asked and her eyes widened. She moved from the half laying position she had been in to sit more properly and completely face Rheseis.
"I most certainly am, and it pleases me that you seem to remember."
"But you cannot have the Key." She seemed to relax again and returned to hold an air of superiority. Her elbow rested against the chaise, and her head rested against her hand. "I'll pay you, ask for any other price, and I will pay."
"No," Rheseis said. Her smile dropped, and she looked sad as she shook her head. "The Key is the price. I will not settle for anything else."
"You insolent... Who do you think you are? Demanding something that isn't yours? The Key belongs to my coven and I will not part from it!"
The High Priestess had finally stood up, and Rheseis could sense the magical power pulsing around the High Priestess. She was sure the display of power was meant to cause fear, but it rather made Rheseis want to roll her eyes. But she stopped herself.
"I don't think you understand." Rheseis shook her head in a motion of sadness. "I will come to you, or your children, when it is time to do the magic required, and then will I name my price and the price must be paid. That was the deal that was struck, and that is the deal you are bound by. I have named my price and the price must be paid."
The woman sighed as if giving in, but Rheseis saw a movement in the corner of her eyes.
This was the fourth High Priestess and Rheseis had noticed the increasing difficulty in the meetings. But this was too far, and it made Rheseis shudder at the thought of what the fifth and last one might do.
But before the witch in the corner of Rheseis' eye managed to complete whatever spell she had planned to cast, Rheseis simply did what the High Priestess had done before. She let the power within her seep out as a blanket of light around her body. This had the effect on all of the witches that the High Priestess had wanted to have on Rheseis.
They all gasped and backed away from her. Such silly little things, Rheseis thought. They really acted all high and mighty until they realized what fire they were playing with.
"So. Can I have the Key of the Goddess now?" Rheseis asked with a smile.
The High Priestess' hand shook as she reached for the chain around her neck and removed it, showing a key hanging from it.
Rheseis tipped toed over to her and took the Key.
"Now, that wasn't that hard, was it?" Rheseis smiled and then giggled slightly before turning around to dance her way out of the house.
