On The Head Of The Pin

"Ruby will meet us outside Cheyenne." Sam told Dean as he woke up. "She's been tracking some leads. Look, I know she's not exactly on your Christmas list but if she can help us get to Lilith--"

"Hey, man, work with Ruby, don't. I don't really give a rat's ass." Dean replied as he rested his head on my shoulder. Sam was driving and Millie sat up front with him.

"What's your problem?" Sam asked.

"Pamela didn't want anything to do with this." Dean stated as I had an arm around his shoulder, running my fingers through his hair. "We dragged her back into it, Sam."

"She knew what was at stake." Sam replied.

"Oh, yeah. Saving the world." Dean muttered. "And we're doing such a damn good job of it."

"Dean--"

"I'm tired of burying friends, Sam." Dean cut him off.

"Hey, it's okay. Let's just take a breath and calm down." I suggested as Evie stirred. She sat in my lap, head against my chest as she slept.

"Look, we catch a fresh trail--" Sam began.

"And we follow it. I know." Dean said. "Like I said, I'm--I'm just getting tired."

"Well, get angry."

"Sometimes you don't have any anger left in you, Sam." I sighed.

"Ah, home, crappy home." Dean remarked as he set a duffle bag down in the chair as we walked into a dark motel room. He moved to the bed to place Evie down.

"Mmm." She whined, gripping his jacket.

"Shh, it's alright, kid. Go back to sleep." Dean told her as I tossed him her blanket while setting Wyatt's carrier down. He caught it, placing it over her.

Sam flicked on the light.

"Winchester and Winchester." Uriel greeted. Castiel stood in the corner of the room, silent.

"Oh, come on." Dean complained.

"You are needed."

"Needed? We just got back from needed." Dean pointed out.

"Boy, mind your tone with me." Uriel warned.

"No, you mind your damn tone with us." Dean stepped forward.

Sam stepped between the angel and his brother. "We just got back from Pamela's funeral."

"Pamela. You know, psychic Pamela? You remember her." Dean said. "Cass, you remember her. You burned her eyes out. Remember that? Good times. Yeah, then she died saving one of your precious seals."

"Listen, why don't we all just go our separate ways? You two winged men go off and fly around the state or something, we'll stay here and get some sleep. We can talk tomorrow." I suggested.

"Yeah, so maybe you can stop pushing us around like chess pieces for five freaking minutes! Dean continued, yelling by the end of the sentence.

"Dean, I had it under control." I told him. "Just--"

"If you tell me to calm down, I swear--"

I stepped in front of him, placing my hands on his shoulders. "Hey, hey, look at me. Breathe."

"We raised you out of hell for our purposes." Uriel spoke up.

"And there goes the calm." I muttered.
