Lucifer Rising
"Dean?" Bobby asked. "Dean. You listen to a word I said?"
Dean was staring out of the living room window, hands in his pockets, just staring. "Yeah, I heard you. I'm not calling him."
"Don't make me get my gun, boy." Bobby warned.
"Some of us can't run, so let's not get guns involved." I spoke up, trying to joke. Though a practically shattered knee wasn't much to joke about.
Dean turned to face us. "We are damn near kickoff for Armageddon. Don't you think we got bigger fish at the moment?"
"I know you're pissed and I'm not making apologies for what he's done. But he's you--" Bobby began.
"Blood? He's my blood?" Dean cut him off. "Is that what you're gonna say?"
"He's your brother and he drowning."
"Bobby, I tried to help him. I did." Dean said. "Look what happened."
"So try again."
"You don't always get everything right on the first try, you know." Millie added, sitting on the couch beside me.
"No, it's too late." Dean crossed the room.
"There's not such thing." Bobby said.
"He's got a point." I sighed.
"No, damn it." Dean snapped. "No. We gotta face the facts. Sam never wanted part of this family. He hated this life growing up. Ran away to Stanford first chance he got. Now it's life deja vu all over again." He sat down next to me. "Well, I am sick a tired of chasing him. Screw him. He can do what he wants."
"You don't mean that." I said softly, placing a hand on his knee.
Dean looked over at me, heartbreak pooling in his green eyes. "I do." He replied. "Sam's gone. He's gone. I'm not even sure if he's still my brother anymore." He looked at the floor. "If he ever was."
Bobby sighed, turning and shoving all of the papers and books from the top of his desk. He spun around to face Dean. "You stupid, stupid son of a bitch!"
Dean stood, confused.
"Well, boohoo, I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess." Bobby continued. "Are you under the impression that family is supposed to make you feel good? Bake you an apple pie, maybe? They're supposed to make you miserable! That's why they're family!"
"I told him, 'you walk out that door, don't come back.' And he walked out anyway." Dean said. "That was his choice."
"You sound like a whiny brat." Bobby stated.
Dean rolled his eyes, walking across the room to the window.
"No." Bobby said. "You sound like your dad." That stopped Dean in his tracks. "Well, let me tell you something. Your dad was a coward."
Dean turned to face the older man. "My dad was a lot of things, Bobby, but a coward?"
Well, this is just getting awkward.
"He'd rather push Sam away than reach out to him." Bobby stated. "Well, that don't strike me as brave. You are a better man than your daddy ever was. A better father."
Dean scoffed, though every word Bobby said was true.
"So you do both of us a favor. Don't be him." Bobby pleaded.
Suddenly, the room melted away, the walls turning to white with gold trim. Paintings hung on the walls with gold frames, marble floors beneath my feet.
"Ah, Zachariah sent for you already." A woman with dark hair walked through the hall on the opposite end of the room. "You should probably have a chat with that little devil in your head. I'm just here to make sure you don't find a way to fly off or get kidnapped."
"Who are you?" I asked, reaching for the knife in my belt.
"Lilian." She answered. "An angel of the Lord."
"Yeah, guessed as much." I mumbled.
"I'll be on the other side of that door. If you want or need anything at all, call." Lilian told me.
"Where's Dean? Or Bobby?" I asked.
"Dean is preparing in a room similar. He's talking with Castiel and Zachariah at the moment. Bobby Singer is at his home." Lilian explained. "Would you like something to eat?"
"No, no, I'm...I'm good. Thanks."
"Are you sure there's nothing I can do for you?" Lilian asked, though the way she said it made it sound like she wasn't talking to me exactly and as if she was referring to something specifically.
"I'm good." I repeated.
With that she turned and headed out of the door.
I sank down onto the couch in the corner of the room, my knee screaming in pain. "Sorceress." I said.
"Lots to explain, I guess." The woman drenched in shadows appears at my side.
"Yeah, so let's get this train rolling, shall we?" I suggested. "First of all, what the hell was Lilian talking about?"
Sorceress sighed. "We have a...complicated past, as you know. We were on a dark road in our second life. Hunting is in your blood, I suppose. Long ago, in our second life, our love also hunted monsters. We joined. Then we realized that the blood of monsters, any monster at all, was...beneficial in some ways to our powers if consumed. Though it turned out to be more like drugs than anything."
"We were a monster blood junkie?" I asked.
"You sound like Dean Winchester." Sorceress gave me a pointed look.
"Well, I do spend every second with the man."
"Anyway, we were hurting and thought power could fix it all. The blood gave us power we never thought we'd have. It's also what split our soul in two. You and I. It's what made me this shadowed thing and you...you." Sorceress explained. "They think if we consume more, it could make us one again, it could give us the power to stop the apocalypse. That's what Lilian was suggesting."
"Is that all I should know?" I asked.
"If Lucifer rises, he will slaughter you."
"Oh?"
"Yes, he didn't like that we had such a sway on Cain. Something about his Knight of Hell being less focused. He never liked us much before being cast out, but still." Sorceress sighed as if he were nothing more than a pesky fly and not Lucifer.
"Oh, wonderful."
"Yes, and...I was also wrong." Sorceress admitted.
"About?"
"Well, you see, it's been a while since I've had to explain the mess that is our love life." She began. "But when you were told that Cain's soul was a part of the two other men we loved, it wasn't exactly that."
"That means." I asked.
"It means that Cain was the first man we ever loved, we ripped out our grace and fell to earth for him." Sorceress said. "What it means, is every man we love is connected to Cain in some way. Not soul exactly. Especially after our soul was split in two. Something odd happened to us after that."
I sighed. "You know a way out of here?"
"Maybe."
